9/11 was a watershed moment in American history. Since that event, the liberty of Americans has been significantly eroded. The Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act, the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, and the latest National Defense Authorization Act all contain frightening provisions that have taken away much of our freedom.

Government cuts cell phone power

People in many countries are able to coordinate their activities, especially demonstrations, using cell phones, twitter, facebook, etc. Governments know this - and hate it. So the government in San Francisco, as you can read here, decided to cut power to cell phone towers so it would be more difficult for people to plan their demonstration. This is just the beginning. In the future, the federal government will do the same, and also go so far as to shut down the internet in the interests of "security" and to hinder "terrorism." Time to watch V for Vendetta again. After financial war, the real war

As the United States causes financial havoc with the rest of the world, other countries are making moves on their own to help their economies. As reported in the Wall Street Journal on Oct. 8th, in September China supported a Russian proposal to start direct trading between the yuan and the ruble. China has also set up a similar deal with Brazil.

Also, Premier Jiabao Wen was in Istanbul to reach an agreement with Turkey to use their own currencies (no U.S. dollar included) in tripling trade to $50 billion over the next five years. According to Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan: "We are forming an economic strategic partnership . . . In all of our relations, we have agreed to use the lira and the yuan."

So much for the U.S. being the world's central bank. As these types of moves continue (who can blame other countries, since our economy is a wreck), the U.S. will become increasingly upset. Don't forget, the U.S. government doesn't like to lose at anything, especially a financial war.

So the question is: When does the U.S. launch a real war against China, since China will ultimately win the financial war?

While young Americans were enjoying their summer vacation, Charles Rangel, representative from New York, introduced H.R. 5741 in the House on July 15th. This Selective Service Act requires a two year mandatory service for the United States. The first paragraph reads:
To require all persons in the United States between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform national service, either as a member of the uniformed services or in civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, to authorize the induction of persons in the uniformed services during wartime to meet end-strength requirements of the uniformed services, and for other purposes.
Interesting. All persons means women too. And what does "for other purposes" mean? Sounds like a catch-all phrase for anything the government wants.

World Cup needs instant replay

It's time to use instant replay since the officials are terrible. Adu's (U.S.) goal was nullified because he was called offside when he wasn't; England's goal was not counted because the official missed that it was one foot over the line (would have been the equalizer against Germany); and Moller got a yellow card for a ball that he unintentially let hit his upper arm (Germany was way ahead at the time, the end of the game, so it was a non-factor), he then missed the match against Spain which dramatically impacted Germany's offense.

Somehow, the U.S. government got into the business of telling us what we can and cannot put into our bodies. And of course, they are hypocritical about it - "allowing" us to drink alcohol while refusing other drugs.

But their efforts have done lots of good, right? Think again. As you can read here, they've accomplished nothing. Can we have our trillion dollars back?

Fannie Mae wants more of our money

Why did the government ever get into the "you-ought-to-own-a-home-and-we'll-make-it-easy-for-you" business? The knuckleheads in D.C. created the Federal National Mortgage Association, nicknamed "Fannie Mae." Well, you can't run government like a business because of the lack of prices, so walaah! - it's now broke. In fact, they want billions more of our money to stay afloat, as you can read here.

If the government had just followed the Constitution, which doesn't mention home ownership, we wouldn't have Fannie taking so much of our money.

The Fall of Rome

Part of the reason the Roman Empire collapsed was that the government debased the currency. The coins were becoming cheaper and cheaper with less and less precious metals content.

Government failure once again

The government fails at everything they do. Yet another example is the Hanford nuclear site in the state of Washington. Once a site to produce nuclear material for the empire, it is now 600 acres of nuclear waste, millions of gallons of contaminated water, and underground tanks that are full of nuclear sludge. This site will take billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars and years to clean up.

Can you imagine the ruckus in Washington D.C. if a private company had done all this? But since it was a government operation, the liars and thugs inside the beltway are silent. Yet every day, more of the sheeple call for more "government solutions." What a joke.

Thirty years from now the map will be different

Many people, especially those who study history and the history of empires, believe the map of the U.S. will look different 20 to 30 years from now. They know that ALL empires break up. Empires break up for many reasons, including moral decay, a debasement of the currency, and attack from outside their borders.

Many people in America want out now. As you can read in this article, there a many candidates in Vermont who want to split off from the empire, I mean the U.S. In fact, there are active secessionist movements in 33 states. So go down to the local CVS or Walgreen's and buy a $5 map of the U.S. and write "2010" on it. Thirty years from now, you can pull it out and show your kids and grandkids, telling them that "this is what America used to look like."

What states we can secede? The Declaration of Independence, of course. In the second paragraph it says that if the government doesn't serve you, you have a right to abolish it and start a new form of government. I'm ready!

Maine has tried "Obamacare" - and it doesn't work

In 2003 the state of Maine put into action its version of universal health care. The results just six years later? Disaster. The system the government of Maine put in place was supposed to save money, but it has cost Maine taxpayers $155 million and the costs are still rising.

First of all, Maine got $50 million from us (I mean the federal government) to start the program. Then, the plan tried to save money by squeezing payments to hospitals and doctors (they really built in a nice incentive for hospitals and doctors to deliver quality care, didn't they?).

The program had a "public option," plus, people were not to be turned down for pre-existing health problems. Guess what happened. Well, as usual when the government tries to repeal the fundamental laws of economics, perverse conditions occur. So Maine has experienced a 74% increase in premiums. A healthy male who is 30 and single pays a montly premium of $762 in Maine, but in nearby New Hampshire, the same person pays only $222. The program is such a bust that they've closed it down to new enrollees, and people are put on a waiting list.

This is Obamacare in a nutshell, tried out in tiny little Maine (and also in Oregon, Tennessee and Massachusetts, with the same results). So when it's applied to the whole nation? - yes, disaster. Time for a return to a free market in medicine with no government involvement.

Taxpayers will lose on this one

Now the government (I mean, taxpayers) owns 56% of GMAC, which has been bailed out a few times and will post a massive loss this year. With the billions being lost on waging war around the globe, the looming health care "reform" that will break the bank, and the continued decline in the housing and other markets, is there any doubt in you mind that this thing (the U.S.A.) is headed for a massive meltdown?

Babe Ruth was the best

Contemporary baseball fans forget, or never knew, how great Babe Ruth was. It's interesting to compare him to other great hitters. The great Hank Aaron, who hit 755 home runs, never bested Ruth in any of the six meaningful categories. Ruth's best slugging percentage for a season was .847 (Aaron .669). Ruth hit 60 home runs one year, Aaron's best was 47. Ruth had 171 runs batted in to Aaron's 132. Ruth once scored 177 runs to Aaron's best of 127. Aaron's best average was .355 - Ruth .393! Finally, Ruth's best on-base percentage was .542, Aaron .410.

The current monster, Albert Pujols, has a slugging percentage best of .678 - small compared to Ruth's .847. Pujols knocks in a lot of runs, but he's still 34 behind Ruth's best of 171. And Pujols has never topped Ruth in any of these six categories.

Bobby Bonds did have a great year when he hit 73 home runs, but if you look at his record, that year indicated an amazing jump over what he had done historically. Still, he only knocked in 137 runs that year, still 34 behind Ruth's best. Even with the steroids, his slugging percentage was only .16 higher than Ruth's (.863 to .847). Don't forget: Ruth's "steroids" were hot dogs, cigars, and beer!

Even comparing Ruth to the great Ted Williams indicates how great the "Sultan of Swat" really was. In fact, ESPN ranked Ruth's 1921 season the "greatest single season performance by any athlete in any sport." Long live the Bambino!

Today, as you have hot dogs, soda, or a cold beer or two, remind your kids, friends, and spouse that the second paragraph of the document we are celebrating says that Texas can secede. The Declaration of Independence states: ". . . whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government . . . "

I'm ready for the Lone Star State again. With well over 20 million people, a nice big port, oil, and lots of farm land, Texas would do well nicely as its own independent republic again. At least we would have one benign neighbor (Mexico).

Wilson with WWI, FDR with WWII, Truman the Korean War, Kennedy and Johnson the Vietnam War.

Instead of letting the market work, the government has yet another new law that will stifle the economy. As you can read here, renters are now "protected" from getting kicked out of their apartments if the landlord is foreclosed on. Never mind that the bank wants to deal with the property in their own way, which many mean sprucing it up. The bank may also want to sell the land to an investor, who may want to raze the complex and build something else. It seems the government wants to protect us from every little hazard and risk in the world. Maybe I need a bureaucrat to drive me around to make sure I'm safe and I don't get into an accident.
