In a civilized society, should anyone or any government ever force anyone to do anything against his or her will as long as that person does not infringe upon the life, liberty, or property of another?

Can Texas secede?

Every July 4th, we celebrate a document that states Texas, or any state, can secede from the United States: "whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and institute new government . . ."

What if an overwhelming majority of Texans voted to leave the United States? Would the U.S. let us go? After all, we could easily survive on our own. We have over 22 million people, which is a lot more than dozens of countries. We have a productive port, the Port of Houston, and an economy that could thrive without the rest of the U.S. dragging us down.

What if the overwhelming majority of Texans said: "you know, we've had enough of high taxes, military spending and an over aggressive foreign policy, limits on our personal liberty, crummy roads and crummy public education, etc. etc." Would the U.S. let us go? NO! The rest of the U.S. would not let us go, and would use military force to keep us in. But how could they, since they celebrate a document every year that says we can?

Because Mr. Lincoln's War took secession away. Even though every delegate at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 believed secession was a fundamental right and important for liberty, it was taken away by the Civil War. That event was a watershed moment in American History. Now, unchecked by the threat of secession, the federal government could grow dramatically (and boy, did it ever!).

Radical talk professor. Actually was thinking the same thing regarding funding of transportation. Texas should stop sending money to the feds. The catch with that is that Texas will have to stop getting aid from the feds as well.
But if we believe in free market then we either make it or not.
The Houston metropolitan area has about the same GDP as the DFW metropolitan area. The Houston metro area GDP is large enough to be ranked about 24th among countries in the world - meaning there are only 24 countries in the world that have economies larger than the Houston metro area. Add DFW, Austin, and San Antonio and Texas might just have an economy as large as to be in the top 10 countries in the world.

I think you got your Declaration of Independence and your Constitution mixed up. Very convenient for your argument, but very bad for making a social studies argument.

Texas is the only state with the right to secede at any time they so choose.

I've believed for some time that Texans should seriously consider secession. Does anyone know of any existing GENUINE Texas secessionist movement?

I was a supporter of Ron Paul throughout the presidential election, and contacted him via email asking if he would consider supporting secession. This is an issue I feel strongly about; and at the risk of sounding like a revolutionary, I feel a sense of duty and obligation to act, rather than sit idle.

If Texas did secede, everyone I know would move there, and Texas would quickly become the richest country in the world. The U.S. no longer embraces Enlightenment values, and if the Republic of Texas did.....

What this is about for some of us who voted against Obama (I only voted for McCain because Palin has common sense, is of the people and demonstrates leadership, therefore McCain was the lesser of the two liberal choices) is the fact that Obama's history and stated policies will lead the US deeper into socialism, towards communism and away from personal freedom, not to mention his support of radical abortion practices. I am a proud American man who happens to be Black and a Christian from California. Socialism is rampant here and there are many Christians here who would leave this State if other States seceeded. Believe me, the ideas of secession and individual liberty do not come from a racist perspective.

"Redneck w/o a gun" Anonymous of 11/11, words well spoken. I, as a white, native Texan, voted just as you did (for the very same reasons.) But, I'm tired of voting for the lessor of the evils and representatives that do not represent our wishes. I'm all for seceding. And you sir, are welcome to join us. Because sir, you are right. It is not about race or gender. In fact, the Republican Party has done more for minorities than the Democrats have taken credit for. Perhaps, we could work out a property swap with the left coast (obviously non-native Texan) unanimous of 11/06. Have you ever noticed how vial liberals are in there speech and writings. Which of us sounds like a dumb red-neck??? Time to cling to our Bibles and guns. Need to get me one of those....

It is surprising that such old wives tales still exist. I am visiting a friend in Houston, and I keep hearing "Texas can legally secede". Well, I went to the library and researched it. I found the provisions, and they are the same as any other state. Texas forfeit all rights as a sovereign nation when they joined the union. They have as little right to secede as any other state in the union. The supreme court actually addressed states rights in Texas vs. White in the later 1800s and upheld that there was no provision or right for Texas or any other state to legally secede from the union. Your rights and obligations are governed by the constitution. You are obligated and bound by that document and terms and cannot sever your connection to the rest of the union, nor abandon the responsibilities as a state.

Christian - you are both right and wrong.
Texas was annexed by a Joint Resolution of Congress in 1845.
Neither the failed annexation treaty nor the Resolution of Annexation reserved any right for Texas to secede. In fact, the treaty would have made Texas a mere territory, but the Joint Resolution gave immediate statehood.
The Resolution provided that Texas has the right to divide itself into as many as five states, if it so desired.
I wonder if increasing representation by 500% would cause concern in Washington?

Texans must be independent of a corrupt and socialist government. We must SECEDE!I believe more and more that this is our only choice for our future. I attended the COME & TAKE IT festival in Gonzales last month. I was so moved by the reinactment of that battle that I now have the COME & TAKE IT flag as a bumper sticker on my truck. It stands as a message to Washington DC......if you think that you can just HAVE Texas for your own selfish purpose anymore.........COME & TAKE IT. Texas will not give up so easily. Nor will we just accept "CHANGE" that has not been fully explained to us. We will not be blindly led to edge of false HOPE just to find out it was HYPE from the beginning. My plan started in the same town Texas independence began......Gonzales......and my first action will occur in Goliad, TX next March at the GOLIAD MASSACRE festival. I plan to educate and enlist any and all who want to act upon thier rights as set forth in the TEXAS BILL OF RIGHTS that states in SEC 1 ... “Texas is a free and independent State, subject only to the Constitution of the United States...” (note that it does not state “...subject to the President of the United States...” or “...subject to the Congress of the United States...” or “...subject to the rest of the United States...”) Both the original (1836) and the current (1876) Texas Constitutions also state that “All political power is inherent in the people ... they have at all times the inalienable right to alter their government in such manner as they might think proper.” It is time we ALTER our TEXAS GOVERNMENT as us TEXANS think proper..........THAT IS OUR RIGHTS AS A TEXAN. Please watch.............then forward this to as many Texans as you know. THE TIME FOR ACTION IS NOW

Interesting, but as is the case with all states, secession is an option, public will however is another story. I would find it interesting to see what the rest of the countrys attitude would be given enough folks here actually pushed and saw an opportunity to leave the union.

They can say we cling to our religion and our guns, they can say we're backwards, but were we to truly push to leave, with all of the things this great state brings to the table, what would they say?

Not to mention, Texas has always had good relations with Mexican migrants. (They were a huge part of Texas defeating Santa Anna, they were Texas at the time!) So we have workers, and would make a border plan that would work with the Migrant workers. Most Mexican migrant workers are CONSERVATIVE catholics, and would support a Texas Conservative lifestyle. The original Republic of Texas Constitution was written in English, Spanish, and German. I know lots of my Migrant friends who really believe in the Original Texas Heritage and Lifestyle.

I can only say I'm ready...

All we need is some Texas Politicians with Tejas Huevos...

I can't take credit for the following, but it is fairly factual...

------------------

Let's get this straight. John McCain, a real American hero, carried Texas by over a million votes. Texans can still smell the fires of the Twin Towers. We would also honor President Bush. George Bush simply did what any Real Texan would do and that is to go try his best to annihilate anyone who was responsible for attacking us. We don't fault him for that. We applaud that sort of behavior. It's Texas politics, Texas style. We're ready to secede. Don't get me wrong. We like ya'll — We just don't want to be like ya'll.

#1: Barak Obama becomes President of the United States (all the other 49 states).

#2: We elect a President of the Republic of Texas and he invites John McCain to be an honorary Texan. We honor our heroes in Texas and honor their service. McCain is welcome here and he can be Secretary of the Texas Navy. Native Texan George Foreman will be Secretary of Defense. After that is all said and done, we wish Mr. Obama well. We really do. We expect one the first acts as President of the Republic will be to tear down the border wall and erect a 10' wall around Austin to keep the "Austin Weird" folks in and away from the rest of us. If they will just pipe their Texas music out over the wall, it will keep the rest of us happy. However, Willie will be Secretary of Agriculture and music. Wonder what he will grow?

So what does Texas have to do to survive as a Republic? Here's a few things to be aware of. Texas is the 11th largest economy on the planet. We are bigger than Spain and right behind Great Britain. We are also bigger than Russia. We are an economic force to be reckoned with. We have a constitutional amendment to balance our budget….and we do it. We also have a multi-billion dollar budget surplus this year. We are so big, we have our own power grid. Yes, that's true. What else? NASA is in Houston. (we will control the space industry). We refine over 85% of the gasoline in the United States. Defense Industry? We have over 65% of it. The term "Don't mess with Texas," will take on a whole new meaning. Oil - we can supply all the oil the Republic of Texas will need for the next 300 years. Obama states? Sorry about that. As David Werst said, "We like ya'll, we just don't want to be like ya'll." You can buy oil (pronounced like ya'll) from us instead of terrorist countries that hate you. We will love you for paying so much to us instead of Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Kuwait and others. You don't want to 'drill baby drill' or put up with those nasty oil wells? Well, we do and we know how to do it without polluting the land, air, and sea.

By the way, We have our own ports and shipping lanes. We're also not "waiting on our FEMA check" to rebuild Galveston. We are doing it right now as we speak. Natural Gas - Again we have all we need and again, it's just too bad about you blue Obama states who don't want drilling. We've been driving around with those big tanks in the backs of our pickups for years now. We'll switch over to compressed natural gas. Obama will figure a way to keep ya'll warm….according to your need. Or, you could use ocean waves, or make friends with Hugo Chavez or what's his name in Iran.

Computer Industry - we currently lead the nation in producing computer chips and communications: Small places like Texas Instruments, Dell, EDS, Raytheon, Motorola, Intel, Austin Technology Centers Etc, Etc. The list goes on and on. Health Centers - We have the largest research centers for Cancer research, the best burn centers and the top trauma units in the world, and other large health centers. We have enough colleges to keep us going: UT, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Texas State University, Rice, SMU, TCU, University of Houston, Baylor, UNT, Texas Women's University, etc. Ivy grows better in the south anyway. We have a ready supply of workers (just open the border when we need some more). But, we won't have an illegal immigration problem. Former Texas Governor candidate Kinky Friedman solved that. He proposed we pay 5 Mexican Generals a million a year to control illegal immigration-folks coming from Mexico to Texas illegally. For every illegal that slips through, we deduct $10,000. Wonder how many will get across the border into Texas? We won't need a Border Patrol.

We like tourism. Come stay a while. Enjoy a Cowboys game or go to Six Flags over Texas….then go home. We don't need any more Californians coming here and messing things up. Or, they could live in Austin where we can keep an eye on 'em. We have control of the paper industry, plastics, insurance, etc. In case of a foreign invasion, we have the Texas National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard. We don't have an army but since everybody down here is heavily armed and has at least six rifles and a pile of ammo, we can raise an army in 6 hours if we need it. That's the Texas way. When the tower sniper started shooting in Austin a few years back, citizens piled out of their cars and pickups and started returning fire within 2 minutes. Our citizens are licensed to carry handguns on their person. We have a saying down here: "If you mess with the bull, you're gonna get the horn." And an even more remarkable finding from the past…. Average Murder per 100,000 residents in counties won by Bush: 0.1 of one percent. Average Murder per 100,000 residents in counties won by Obama: 13.2. In Texas, even some of our school teachers carry guns. We won't surrender our kids to nuts and terrorists without a fight. Don't even think about messing with us. If the situation really gets bad, we can always call the Texas DPS and ask them to send over a couple of Texas Rangers.

We are totally self sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs and vegetable produce and everybody down here knows how to cook them so that they taste good. Don't need any food. Arts? Bob Wills is still the king, but we also like different types of music, Country….and….Western. We even have our own beer. Lone Star, The National Beer of Texas. This just names a few of the items that will keep the Republic of Texas in good shape. There isn't a thing out there that we need and don't have. Just keep on reading David Werst's Real Texas Blog for more details on how to be a Real Texan.

Now to the rest of the United States under President Obama: Since you won't have the refineries to get gas for your cars, We'll sell you gas too. We'll call the gas company Texasco or something like that. Happy to do it. You won't have any TV as the space center in Houston will cut off your communications or ask you to pay for the signal. It will be Texas Direct TV. Hank Jr. will move here and be in charge of programming. Did you know we don't even have an income tax? We have all we need here in God's country and like I've already said, if we don't have it, we don't need it. We will have cheap, plentiful energy. The new Texas Secretary of Energy, T. Boone Pickens will be putting up thousands of wind generators all over the west Texas plains and since everybody else thinks Texas is full of hot air, we might as well take advantage of it. Good luck. Ya'll are gonna need it.

Signed, The People of Real Texas

For every $1.00 Texans' pay in federal taxes $0.70 comes back in federal programs (comparrison to Massachusetts that for everyone $1.00 they pay they get $2.12 back).

As a native born Texan I would whole-heartedly vote for secession.

I am finally returning to where I consider home after a 33 year exile here in Alaska.

If Texas secedes Alaska will not be far behind.

I'm from the socialist land of Minnesota, and if Texas secedes I would love to move down and become a citizen of Texas. I imagine some of the friendly neighboring states might join you as well (ex. Oklahoma).

We as human beings, by right of our mere existence, have the right to secede from the Union - it plainly states so in the Declaration of Independence, and without supporting evidence because this truth is "self-evident." It just is. The Declaration of Indepence is our founding document, and declares our rights as human beings. The Constitution is a document that defines the rights of government, not the other way around. To say that we do not have the right to secede is to deny Natural Law, and our inalienable rights given to us by our Creator. If the revolutionaries looked to England and their "rights" granted by the crown in their deliberations regarding revolution, nowhere would they find the right to secede, and yet they did, and thank God.

I love how liberals and socialists deny people their inalienable rights, and yet label those who disagree with them as tyrants and fascists. Socialism produces nothing but tyranny - look it up (or dig up the mass graves).

Unfortunately, I think this will be the only way to preserve freedom and the dream of the founding fathers. The Federal Government has reached far beyond its powers as defined in the Constitution, and this transgression is generally accepted and tolerated. Things keep getting worse and worse, and when the unfunded liabilities of Social Security and Medicare come due very soon, younger generations are going to want to get out from under the indentured servitude their parents and grandparents spent them into.

I say: Screw the Boomers. Long Live Texas!

Of course Texas can leave the Union. The 13 colonies left their Sovereign nation. Texas left Mexico. Of course, Texas can leave the United States. Our forefathers had the knowledge that life was not more important than freedom. Money has driven us to believe in the opposite.

Why are people in this blog actually trying to legalize such a maneuver as if it needed to be so?

Don't you realize that the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were illegal documents of their time?

There's no legality associated with breaking away from a country, until the usurpers CREATE the documents that support such a move.

You see? It's a matter of supporting one's own action here that gave birth to the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

Both documents are as legal as a piece of toilet paper with hand scrawled explanations as to why Texas has the right to leave the United States.

Stop looking for legality here, and follow precedent. That's where your answer to this question lies.

Emphatically, yes.

The time has come to seriously consider options. If this could be done peacefully and correctly I believe there would be a groundswell of support. The only problem I see is all the people moving into Texas from other states.

I am neither American, nor Texan, but I found the post interesting. It was pointed out to me after I questioned whether Texas was how the outsiders of the US sometimes view the USA in general - being oblivious to anything existing outside its borders.

But seeing this post showed me something else - that someone is unhappy with the way the nation is run and whether the State itself has or does not have the right to bust out and become totally independent is an interesting topic piece. I don't see this as being redneck or racist. At least not the post about being independent. If you're sick of the BS - what do you do? Bury your head in the sand and take it up the .... like a good lil boy ? Or do you look at what other options are available?

It has become evident that something needs to change. I for one was born and live in TEXAS. I will start supporting this concept of secede ing as soon as I sign this comment. Get involved, lets make this happen. The US has lost its way with all the give me something for nothing lazy I don't want to work you owe me asses. I want to work for my freedom. How can we get this off the starting line? If the vote that took place today on a bill that our elected officials voted on without even reading it isn't enough proof they are not working in our best interest, then nothing is. All they (Dems) want is power & control. Say no to the "New Change"

TEXAS SECEDE!!!

I'm truly sick at what has happened. Fortunately we can do something about it. If more people actually thought this was possible I believe the tide would turn and we could become the envy of the rest.

Long Live Texas and it's rights and beliefs!!!

This week, New Hampshire and seven other states have introduced resolutions declaring state sovereignty under the Ninth and Tenth Amendment to the Constitution, with Analysts expecting another 20 states to introduce similar measures this year. This reasserts the states authority through a rollback of federal authority under the powers enumerated in the Constitution, with the states assuming the governance of the non-enumerated powers, as required by the Tenth Amendment. (POSTING STATES) We certainly have many unhappy people with the current direction of the Obama administration when we have lawmakers in 20 states making moves to reclaim sovereignty. Contact your State Rep if you want this as well...Not your Federal Rep

The following states have introduced resolutions declaring sovereignty under the Ninth and Tenth Amendment recently. Arizona, Hawaii, Montana, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, Oklahoma and Washington.

Expected soon as well: Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Nevada, Maine and Pennsylvania.

(according to posting - HCR 6 as introduced - 2009 Session 09-0274)

To the same moron as the last poster refered to. How come anyone who disagrees with Obama is automatically racist? You liberals love to sling that card around to try to defend this walking example of the Peter Principle. Calling anyone who disagrees with you a racist just shows that you are too stupid to realize you cannot argue the facts because you will lose. Obama and Pelosi may be the best thing that ever happened for the Republicans in the next election.

A bill has been introduced in the Texas House of Representatives, authored by Bryan Hughes (5th district), Brandon Creighton (16th district), and Leo Berman (6th district)... "Affirming that the State of Texas claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the U.S. Constitution, serving notice to the federal government to cease and desist certain mandates, and providing that certain federal legislation be prohibited or repealed."

Here's the link to the Texas Legislature Online site:

http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/BillLookup/History.aspx?LegSess=81R&Bill=HCR50

A few days ago, I sent an email to my state rep, Brandon Creighton, co-author of the bill. He replied within 30 minutes and advised me that he has been speaking to Representative Charles Key (who introduced a similar bill into the Oklahoma legislature), and shares my concern for state rights.

I urge every Texan to contact their state rep, state senator, and the office of the governor. We have good men and women in our Texas legislature... let them hear your voices.

Also, some of you may not be aware of the 2010 Texas Gubernatorial candidate, Larry Kilgore, who campaigns for Texas secession. Here's the link to his site if you're interested:

Show America what it means to be free and independent again and maybe they'll come back to their senses. In GOD we trust. Ted Nugent for President.

Gentlemen-

The nation of Texas has never ceased or will ever cease to exist as long as her sons still dare to mention her noble name and demand the decency of other right thinking nations toward her virtue. I am a Seventh Son of Texas, and would shed every drop of my blood to preserve her, to advance her, to sustain her and to bring her into the proper light of recognition among sister Soveriegns.

Let no man think that her defence is unaided by her native sons both high and low, and that she does not bear them as the true progeny of Aristotle where our present Custodian has failed so miserably. Let no man speak that cannot set his foot upon our sacred soil and make his odious claims and be accountable. And let no man languish in the falsehood that the Texan woods, mountains, desarts [classical spelling!!] , mighty cities, waste lands, forests and sprawling plains do not wait in perfect silence, populated by the Sons of Texas to defend or adron her Precincts, from any foe who might offend or any friend who might extend the hand of amity or evil entity who might project the dagger of tyrrany.

If any fool should wish to tangle with Texas, let him do so and be done with, or claim that Texans care for their 'wealth' and might capitulate, and remember Crockett, or fear a mightier foe, and remember the fallen and disgraced Empiror Santa Anna et al, or that a true Texan finds a meal of Black Eyed Peas and cornbread to be a Feast, if prayed over to Almighty God.

Remember, mockers, that we have not ceased, nor will we cease, and that the hour will presently be upon the stage. Choose your part, fool or friend!

That's it! Ive had it with the Democrats and their wasteful spending. They are now going to add ANOTHER 410 billion with 9000 earmarks to the 1.3 trillion they have already wasted. It has been projected that Obama will have spent 8.4 trillion with interest in simply 3 WEEKS for everything he is planning!!! That's far more than Bush in 8 YEARS, and Bush had two wars & September 11, followed by a recession. Every other state that has been irresponsible is now going to have their hands in our pockets as a reward! This administration punishes success, therefore I am going to close my business, and no longer contribute! I can get by till the next administration takes over, I give it 4 years!

An analogy of what is going to happen. We are all on the same boat, however some of us are rowing, while others are simply taking the free ride. At some point, the hard working rowers will look back and see the free riders and think, "why am I rowing, I'll just take the free ride as well". Over time, there will be fewer and fewer rowers until we reach the point where the boat no longer moves forward because no one see's the point in giving the free ride to everyone else anymore.

Faith, family & hard work, these are things true Texans have as a common bond. We are at a crossroads in America that we as citizens have no controll over. As a nation  Texans can take controll of thier future and have a voice in what truley matters. My maternal great great grandmother was born in Bastrope, TX. in 1836 & we've been here since. I dont want my legacy to be the generation that let these things we honor be taken away from the next generation. Do you? It has been said to keep control of a nation feed it. Jefferson wrote a nation of democracy will fail without God. How hungry for the truth must we become before we realize that the next generation must go without? The Marine Corps is 42% Native Texan. I mention this because from time to time a people must defend ones freedom.

As a native son of Texas I have watched for years as her wild spirit and free thinking have grown into conformity. And as refreshing as i find this site, i believe her colors are getting more gray with each generation.
The men and women who gave everything to get her free must be somewhere shaking their heads wondering how we could let this happen
Like them, we should be looking politicians (or anyone else) in the eye and saying- do the right thing for Texas or get the hell out!
With that being said- sadly i don't know if there are enough "real" Texans left to do what needs to and should be done.
my best hopes and wishes are with you all,
may the Lord keep you safe.

I absolutely enjoyed how Rush pointed out something that has irked me for awhile about the hypocrites in Congress. When he pointed out that Barney Frank, Chris Dodd & Hillary were the actual architects of the subprime mortgage crisis, I was glad! I remember thinking when it was happening that it was nothing more than a social engineering experiment about to go very wrong! The people in charge of this country are leading us in the WRONG DIRECTION, and I am furious with them! They want to punish success, and make people dependent on the government for everything! How long will the government be able to appease ALL the needs of the people they make reliant on them? Our country is the greatest country in the world, and people from everywhere try to come and live here. They come here because of our FREEDOM, PROSPERITY, and our right to pursuit happiness. People around the world know that if you work hard in the U.S., you can succeed! This new administration is taking that AWAY from ALL of us! There will be NO REASON to work hard if the government simply takes it away to give to the people who don't work hard, and want everything handed to them. It is time for us ALL who truly believe in our constitution to stand up against these policies, and make our representatives accountable to "we the people". We have to turn this around, before it is all gone!

I am a native Texan who has lived out of the state longer than I lived in it, but I will always be a Texan.

I am not a racist. I want all races to succeed in the US lawfully, but I feel, as Ghandi, did, that you must be the change you want to see in the world. Obama is not a uniter, he is on a very shrewd mission, and I pray that Texas will stand up and show the rest of the country that they can follow suit.

I never thought that America would vote for a person who shows and states his disregard and his disdain for his country, or would be beating down those who fight for the rights of the unborn, or would be demanding that laws and morals that have been honored for centuries be abolished, or that illegal immigrants have more rights than citizens, or that those who pay taxes should be asked to do even more for those who pay none, or that the right to bear arms would be in question, or that our government would be appointing men who have been dishonest and corrupt and vile to our highest and most respected offices.

Forget the budget, the money awarded to groups that have tainted our system with corrupt and illegal voting, the targeting of those who have been successful in our democratic system that once allowed all to have that same opportunity, and the swagger of the one who repeatedly reminds us of his power and his triumph, this is TEXAS. If we don't make a stand, no one will.

It breaks my heart to see our country in such a state. I love America, but I can no longer tolerate Pelosi, Reid, or Obama. I will not have my rights as an American tainted by their agendas, nor have my beliefs belittled.

I would like to see all of the Red states secede or at least stand united so that Obama understands that he can no longer push his agenda on us.

I hope Texas will start the movement. I know Travis and Houston would be leading the movement if they were here.

God bless Texas and our country.
We need it.

I whole heartedly aqree that Texas should secede. WE would see a vast increase in freedoms, and out tax burden would be diminished severely. Some of our population would most likely immediately leave for socialist USA, but we would also receive more people that were hard working individuals making there own way and headed for the new "Texas Dream." Abortion would probably outlawed and many other conservative values could be restored. The problem is this, and i am not one of the people thinking we went to war in the middle east over oil alone, but you better believe if there was no oil there then we wouldnt be either. Do you think that the UNited States is going to just let Texas and her vast natural resources not to mention the refining capabilities of Houston just walk right out of the union? I am thinking we would probably be at war, and we would get humiliated and defeated.

I think you are assuming we would be alone. I think this will be like a can of worms. Once opened a lot more will come out.

I also have concerns for the fight that would follow a move to secede. Not to mention the free for all the drug cartels in Mexico would assume the had. But i am not prepared to let Texas go off the cliff with the others. Whatever the cost liberty is worth it. Or at least our forefather thought so. The question is are there enough "real" Texans left to stand up and be heard?

On April 15th, 2009 there is going to be a nationwide taxdayteaparty. Some people will simply post yard signs, some on their cars, some on their shirts, anyway you can get your message out that you DO NOT approve of how our government is WASTING OUR hard earned MONEY! There is a website on taxdayteaparty.com/teaparty/texas that you can find a location in Texas for a large gathering with others participating in the nation wide tea party.

You people should really travel the world a little bit and experience what life is like outside of your little Texas.
There are better things to worry about than this kind of nonsense.
It's about absolutely nothing but dumb pride.

I have done my share of travel, in the military and out. I always looked forward to coming back home to Texas. Her individuality is one of the things we treasure most about her, so why should she be like everyplace else. And pride? you better believe it pardner. No amount of looking down your nose at out love for our state will change it. I know how hard it must be for people who don't have pride in where they are from to understand. And the answer is simple, if you don't like the way we are - stay away from us!sc

I find it so pathetic that Obama cannot speak anywhere without a TELEPROMPTER telling him what to say. He actually congratulated himself by reading a part that was mean't for someone else to read TO HIM on the teleprompter this week. He is behaving like a puppet, and I am wondering WHO is really pulling his strings? Could he be a Pelosi Puppet? I hope Texas can break away from the madness of this irresponsible administration!

Anonymous said...

The decision this IRRESPONSIBLE congress made TODAY to tax away 90% of the AIG bonus to individuals is an extremely dangerous precedent to start! When you have Congress singling out a specific group of people to punish by taking 90% of their pay, it opens the door wide open to further corruption within government. This act is unconstitutional, and the people better wake up! What if YOU are next to be in the group they decide to take 90% of the pay away from? Yes, it was wrong these people received bonuses, however Congress holds EQUAL responsibility, and yet Congress received a PAY RAISE. There is no longer any justice!

Think about it, the majority of Texans want to secede, they accomplish this, and the rest leave so their welefare checks keep coming. Then you have a free and prosporous Texas. A Texas where good morals and values and a belief in God and doing what is RIGHT takes precedence over the fear of doing the right thing because you might hurt feelings. We have to stand up for what we believe or Ombama and Pelosi with tell us what to believe and if we still don't believe, then they will legislate what we believe.

Go to google, and enter Texas 9-12 Project Meetups to find a group near you, and JOIN US so we can all stand together side by side and have strength in numbers to lawfully oppose this new radical socialist agenda that our Country seems to be on. The Obama administration is asking his supporters to push forward his agenda, and we need a strong line of people willing to push back!

As a seventh generation Texan, my families received land grants from the Mexican government. In fact, we were invited to a ceremony in Austin where where we were recognized as having a continuous operating family ranch for 150 years.

Our people built this Republic and their names can be found on the San Jacinto monument, as well as the Alamo.

This wasn't that long ago folks. We fought it we built, suffered for it and died for it.... and created our rangers. I say we can do whatever the hell we want to. It is ours.

I am not a Texan but will be proud to become one should you brave folks secede from the union. I would like to say something to some of the other posters on here.
1.The people in Texas and other states wanting to secede has nothing to do with racism. It is about a tyrannical government trying to take away the freedoms that God gave us and our ancestors have died for.
2.I urge the people of Texas to do anything you can to convince your leaders to secede..Don't ever give up and wait to see what happens.
3.To the one that made the comment about the boat and everyone would quit rowing.I would keep rowing and if it got too hard to pull the load of the freeloaders,I'd simply get up and throw them overboard.
4.Someone wanted to know who Obama is a puppet for. He is a puppet for the Federal Reserve. Check out The Obama Deception video.
5.To anyone that believes that Texans are puffed up with false pride. You are wrong. Texans are a rare breed. They do have a lot to be proud of.They stick together better than anyone I know. They have guts and glory and they are not afraid to display it. They don't stick their head in the sand and wait for the sky to fall..If they believe in something they will fight to the death for it..I have some friends in Texas and I for one appreciate the fact that not only will they fight for their rights but they will fight for yours too if need be..

Texans do whatever you have to do to remain free and know my prayers are with you in whatever it may be.I just wish the people in NC had the backbone you guys do. If you do manage to secede my family will be down there to stand with you..

To the posts supporting Texas leaving the union- Thanks! For quite sometime I have heard the rumblings of people wanting to leave the union. But thanks to Mr.Obama the rumbling has become a growl, I suspect before he and his congress are done, the growl will be a full blown roar. We Texans don't need to be taken care of (we proved that a long time ago),we just need the politicians to get out of our lives and wallets. If it does come down to us leaving the union, I for one, welcome anyone who wants the freedom and independence that we cherish in our state as long as they are of the same mind.

I believe that the first step is to find out WHO in the Texas legislature supports secession. If this movement has any chance of success, we Texans must know what we're up against. Has anyone heard from their state senator or representative yet?

I checked on the status of Bill HCR 50 and saw where many have added their names as co-authors, and that it has been referred to State Affairs as of February 23rd, but no other information. Keep in mind that this bill DOES NOT indicate that these representatives support secession, but rather giving their support to the bill itself which reaffirms the 10th Amendment to the US Constitution.

There have been rumors that some opposition groups, such as the American Socialist party, American Communist Party, ACORN, and just plain liberal haters may be there to disrupt in opposition. Texas is somewhat unique in that it existed as an internationally recognized republic for nine years after it had won its OWN War of Independence 173 years ago for many of the same reasons we are considering secession today - simply put, that a distant corrupt government began imposing onerous and unconstitutional burdens on its citizenry.
Perhaps we can promote our own verision of the Compromise of 1850, and the U.S. can pick up D.C. as its 50th state, or, if the Okies want the Republic of Texhoma, throw Puerto Rico into the deal.
That'll get the liberal dems in Washington on our side, for sure.

I've was born and raised in Texas and lived half my life there - proudly. However, when I witness what has happened to the politics of home state, well it's more than a bit discouraging. It seems to me that the advent of internet, cable-tv and talk-radio politics has resulted in the gross stupidification of my fellow Texans.

More often than not, the arguments I hear them put for are based on ideas that are factually incorrect. (such as the reasons put forth for the "tea-parties"). Yet President Bush proved ignorance is not guarantor of humility, unfortunately, and too many Texans follow that model.

One moment they consider themselves American super-patriots and the next they cheer secession. Simultaneously and passionately adhering to utterly contradictory ideas is not the mark of a mind thinking rationally.

These are difficult, challenging and fascinating, important issues. To see the dialogue surrounding them reduced to demagoguery and p.r. stunts is sad. Bring on more Joe The Plumber: Yep, there's an uplifting standard bearer for the Grand Ol Party. Ug. Enough. I miss Texas. Its gone dumb. So...secede: sure. Enough. Please. Go.

Anonymous said...

Bye Bye, we won't miss you!

Anonymous said...

To the ones with the negative comments on Texas leaving the U.S.- Everyone has an opinion but if you don't live here who gives a crap what you think! We are not pushing for independence because of who is president at the moment, this movement is a lot older than that, obama is just the final straw. And it has nothing to do with his skin color as you want to believe. Collectivist policies are the reason, no matter who they are proposed by, and as far as I am concerned ol' G.W. let us down in quite a few areas. As a Texan and a president.
The tea parties letting people express their opinions of how the current government is doing, are are just as valid as any other group protesting a million other causes. So be disgusted, or what ever you want, call us names, be intellectual and look down your nose at us, it just fans the flame. We are Texans, and we will do what we feel is the right for our state.

I think that all the red states should join with Texas and secede, being from Wyoming with all the coal, gas, and oil we could control the blue states and see how the like that for change.

Eli Chisholm said...

I don't think it's so radical, but might instead be viewed as a necessity by a lot of the people there. Secession is a dramatic way of expressing displeasure with the government, and one to be used as a last resort, to be sure. I think the governor took the right first step with HCR 50. States have responsibilities within the Union, to be sure, but the rights and powers of the Federal government were written specifically to prevent a centralized government.

The founding fathers knew that local government would be the best solution for local problems, and that a centralized, all-powerful seat of authority would not have the competence of local or even regional conditions to be of any use, and would in fact exacerbate the problem in many cases. Remember, they rebelled against England for exactly that reason (when you boil it down). They knew that a 'one solution fits all' federalized policy would never work on so varied a people as existed (and still exist!) in America, and therefore went to great pains to specifically curtail the amount of authority the federal government had, leaving the bulk of the power and responsibilities with the states, and leaving the states as the essential caretakers and custodians of the federal government, of which it is only meant to be a servant of the states as a whole (in case of interstate commerce, border protection, national defense, and the prevention of abuses of right by states).
The states, when you get right down to it, have the authority to abolish the current federal government, legally void it or remove it, and exert their authority as a unified whole (which is what the federal government is meant to represent anyway).
The funny thing is that the line is drawn in such a way that even states representatives in Congress no longer fall within the actual states; they are spokesmen for their states, but are actually acting members of the federal government. Notice that while the state ovters have control over who they send out to Washington, once the representatives get there, the state really has very little say or control over what they do, with only the threat of re-election to keep them in rein.
If all of the states got up, said that they were tired of the way the federal government was running things, and told Washington that they were not going to listen any more, what could Washington possibly do? Turn the military on them? That's preposterous; how many soldiers do you think there are that would really turn their weapons on American citizens, for doing something that is legally their right? Bear in mind that a soldier is also a citizen, and would have the firm thought that the next time, it could be them staring down the barrel, let alone the repugnancy of the thought of killing fellow Americans.
No, I think secessation is a last resort. More likely, I think, that the states will take back what is legally theirs, and kick Washington as we know it to the curb, and replace it with what they REALLY want: sound, limited government that keeps it's hands out of everything that is best left to the locals.

It amazes me how many people view this as a racial issue. Just because a state that has been labeled as a redneck, hill billy state wants to secede from the United States does not make those involved racist. This has very little to do with the fact that Barack Obama is black and much more to do with his fiscal policy. The US was founded on the ideals of capitalism, and while pure capitalism would only lead to the "Boom and Bust" economy of the past, this new economic policy is much closer to socialism than capitalism. If we allow companies to become to big to fail and place the financial burden on the public we have not stayed true to the founding of the country. Being from Texas I would probably not want them to secede, but if it was a possibility and did happen I would go back and support those actions because that is my rights. That does not make me a racist or hillbilly.

This is really sad. How a lot of these comments are rep. against dem. It is sad how much these two polical parties have helped to destroy any once of unity, honor or pride in our country. Texas helped produce the worst president in our countries history and they have the nerve to point fingers at anyone. Where were these tea parties when the bush administration took a surplus and plunged us into trillions in debt. People need to realize that politicians by nature are rich, self serving, lying scumbags no matter what political party they are from. With that much power comes corruption. Its that simple. When was the last time someone got elected president who wasnt a multi millionaire. Wont happen. You have to have money and connections to win elections. That's it. It would be nice to actually have someone that is real and understands real problems in the gov't. But us normal people always bear the weight of hardship in this country because of it. Doesnt matter which party is president. They all look after their people. Which are rich people and big business. People need to quit being sheep and question are gov't instead of blindly voting by party. Who cares what party someone is from as long as they are a good leader. But its all a power struggle between Americans to get there party elected. Whoever controls the media wins elections because that is all people watch. Most dont actually question anything. Who ever gets favored by the media wins or loses. And no Texas cant secede. Do people not remember what happened in the 1860's when they last tried to do that.

You will find me among you one day when my home state of Michigan burns itself to the ground with Liberalism, as is currently underway.

It's wonderous how the few wonderful states that have the lowest or no state income taxes find themselves in financial paradise whereas California and Michigan and others find themselves near fiscal ruin and "in need" of MORE of OUR money to "fix it."

Texas, I love you. Keep up the good work. I plan on moving there in within a few short years anyhow as I appreciate any place that vehemently defends our God given rights.

There are a lot of people in this thread describing the current federal government as "tyrannical."

This description of the federal government is absurd. The current federal government was duly and properly elected by citizens of the United States. Obama won both the popular vote and and electoral college vote by large margins.

This duly elected government has not abrogated any Texan's constitutional rights. Therefore there is no tyranny.

The "secessionists" on this board are merely angry with Obama's policies. You have a right to be angry and to vote for federal representatives who oppose those policies.

However, your talk of secession smacks of hypocrisy. If I had been talking secession as a Pennsylvanian in response to the Bush administration, I would have been labelled by you all as a traitor to the American cause. But when you all talk secession from with a non-tyranical government you don't like, you think of yourselves as patriots.

Losers.

Roswell said...

Hilarious secession talk. Especially the idiocy that Texas has 65 percent of defense contracts.

WRONG. As soon as Texas became a foreign country ALL defense contracts would be moved back to the USA. American defense contracts done in America, NOT a foreign country like texas.

ALL military bases would be shut down and moved.

Go defend yourselves with all those pistols you buy. Yeah I can see that happening if China invaded. You'd be crying and pissing in your pants for the USA to take you back.

Tourism? Yeah right. As soon as US tourism companies show the horrendous laws in your "country" being just like Mexico or worse; figure a good 50/75 percent drop.

NASA? MOVED. We don't do American rocket control from foreign countries.

Any and all Aerospace industries? GONE. Foreign countries can't do our aerospace.

Computers? So what. WE have the real computer resources in California and a simple tariff hike would take of texas.

PORTS? That might work but probably not as Texas which hates unions would make being union a death penalty offense so the ports would probably end up hurting for work as companies would move their work to supported ports. Especially since the tight assed texans would hire cheap Mexicans to work the ports thus ensuring companies moving their imports to the USA TO the USA.

Oil? Who cares. More incentive to go alternative.

Natural Gas? So what. plentiful everywhere.

Medical? Sorry wrong. The biggest research centers are NOT in Texas, you just have some. The best are in the BLUE STATES, thus the United States which you will have to pay to use.

Oh and spare us the crap you can do quite well without the USA. YOU are the biggest welfare queen in the United States. LOTS of people on welfare from the BLUE states which are the least needing of money.

BUT these is one thing that y'all would love. Becoming a white state since ANYONE slightly different in color would leave as they would no longer have the protections of the U.S. Constitution against discrimination. And we KNOW you texans would become a KKK state in about 20 seconds flat.

So PLEASE Texas..>SECEDE!

To the last post- no sir, you have misjudged us Texans. As I have repeatedly said, this move towards separation has been out here for a lot of years, its only lately become a real serious thought by those of us who usually don't put much stock in such things. The state of the government has gotten this way over several generations of moving away from constitutional rule. And at anytime had any state wanted to leave the U.S. we are the last ones who would say anything about it as we feel that way ourselves, even if we don't say it out loud. We Texans are not picking a fight we just want to be free.

If you consider that the remaining 49 states have NOT stood up to defend the Constitution, it could be argued that THEY are the ones that have inadvertently discarded the union. Texas would therefore be the only state remaining IN the union (although alone) since it would be the only state that still honors the documents which founded the Federal Gov't.

What union is there when the glue that holds it together is no more?

I don't understand what the argument is about here. Both sides agree.

Texans want to leave the USA an the rest of America wants them to go. I agree too. Leave Texas. Leave. Leave as soon as possible.

And please tell the citizens of the United States who are remain proud to call themselves "American" what we can do to expedite you exit. You want to leave and the rest of us want you to go. What's the problem? Me and millions of other Americans will do anything we can to speed your exit.

You are an embarassment to American ideals and an you insult to the the dead patriots who gave their lives building, defending and preserving this great Union. Please go. What can we do to help? I'm serious.

Two points. The first, I take many of you seceders at your word when you say this is not a race-related campaign, but what do you expect real Americans (as opposed to the third-worlders you all aspire to be) to think when the two moments in history you decided it was worth killing and being killed by real Americans, were during two moments of black empowerment in America? A pretty galling coincidence don't you think?
If it was just about the growth of the federal goverment or expenditures, where was this desire to secede under the much more liberal and, at the time, radical expansion under the noticiably less-black FDR in the 1930's? I know Texans aren't known to be the quickest rabbits in the pen, but an 80 year reaction time is damn slow, and loses all credibility considering Reagan and GWB both doubled the deficit in their 4 terms. Considering Texas's large role in keeping these men in power, if we did let you go, get ready to pay your huge share of the deficit you helped, perhaps more than any other state in the union, drive up to record levels. I'd say if you can come up with about 9 trillion dollars, we might just consider your offer, but don't you dare think America is going to let you America-haters skip out on the bill right after you ordered dessert!
A second point, are you guys serious? I realize most of you are just whining because of your humiliating defeat this last election, and because there is no return of the Republican party in sight, unless it changes itself so radically, that it will lose all you radicals which currently make up its shrinking membership. But, to those who are serious, destroying anti-american desert civilizations is pretty much what the US military does best, why would you want to bring on your own annihilation? Has tourism lagged so badly that you need a new Alamo? A new tourist attraction Texans can point to proudly and exlaim "This is where we were mercilessly and humiliatingly defeated by a vastly superior civilization for letting our mouths write checks our butts coudn't cash. again." Here's hoping the wasteland of a state you little sand dwellers are left with can be rebuilt with admission ticket revenue! Good luck, and I will be among the first to volunteer to come put you Napolean complexers back in their rightful place, at the bottom, the filter between Mexico and real America.

Technically no, TEXAS cannot sucede but that doesnt mean its impossible or that it wont happen. As TEXANS we pride ourselves with great devotion to yes TEXAS. Many people might even i agree with the quote "im a TEXAN, before im an American." It is understandable how we would think that we could make it if we did sucede and if we had to you better believe that TEXAS would make. Not only that we would do great. However, we have to think logicly about all of this. Lets not let our pride blind us on whats best. If we were to sucede we would face many problems in fighting for our rights and that's always a good thing but lets remember that we have already done that. Yes, the U.S. is going through some trouble right now but thats exactly why we should stay together. There is no doubt in my mine that TEXAS would do great on its on maybe even better. Right now though, we need to stick together and fight this as one like we always have!!!

I quote "men will live in a
yard-square of space as long as they get to live, live, how true life might be".Well, I dont know what our world has come to. Everyone fighting for something so unimportant as suceding from the U.S. For what? Liberty, benefit in self-economy, or just for a desired self-benefit. Maybe people like this dont deserve life at all, no matter were you may live. Things will never change. Regulation of law and society has to always keep control of a country. Someone has to be on top and someone in bottom. A democracy is the best thing for the people. If it dosent work out which it wont you'll be begging to return to the U.S. to that inch of square you could possibly have.

would love to see texas secede. Would love the witness the first few weeks when unemployment skyrockets due to the withdrawal of government jobs. Yes texas makes alot of money... but the big economy isnt due to conservatives bbq business... its due to NASA, military bases, and the liberal cities of texas.

When texas drives all of them out... its going to be laughable to see what sort of economy the most poorly educated people of one of the most poorly educated states, can muster for an economy.

Frankly, I dont think raising cattle is going to be enough of a cash crop to maintain roads, setup post offices, maintain the police force/firedepartment, run the DMV, immigration department etc. Especially with no taxes, which is the entire idea behind the political movement.

Not to mention, i think running a country requires some schooled individuals... of which the ultra conservatives have none.

I would pay money for texas to secede... so i could watch all the intellectuals leave the state and see what a bunch of gun toting cowboy hat wearing individuals incapable of doing simple math can come up with.

Im guessing it would be the wild west again, which certainly was a thriving economy.

I will put $100 into the pot if texas secedes. Comedy on this level only comes once in a lifetime.

Anonymous said...

Reading somemore i think i should followup on my own comment.

The reason i call those wanting to secede poorly educated is two fold. 1) Texas is a poorly educated state, people who fall into conservative party rhetoric tend to be even more poorly educated.

You want to secede, why? is it because obama wants to lower your taxes? is it because of the stimulus plan? because when bush put the first stimulus plan into action it was "america, love it or leave it" from the conservatives. When Obama does it, its "socialism, run!".

for some reason ultra conservatives seem to want to give rich people more money, even though they are far from rich. This is essentially brainwashing on behalf of the conservative party. Letting the rich have all the money, and all the power doesnt work... see feudalism if you dont believe me. If you let them, the rich will enslave the poor.... this may not be legally, but financially... watch as white people start picking strawberries for $1 an hour instead of mexicans. With no minimum wage there is no reason to hire a mexican... but there is also no reason to pay a texan a dime more than a mexican would work for.

If you want a free market you need to be prepared for the consequences... which means competing with illegal immigrants for wages.

There are alot of smart texans... but they arent the rural country boys like you would think, they are the educated liberals running your cities.

I am not trying to say liberals are smarter because they arent... i think anyone on the far right/left are nutjobs of low intelligence who have been brainwashed by politicians. A truly intelligent mind would be a moderate... because the odds of you agreeing 100% with either party is almost as good as winning the lottery. Someone who is well read and understands economic and political issues will likely be someone who sees valid points on both sides of the fence.

But yea, i still would love to see texas secede.

For the Texans who say things like "And you have the right to be jealous of us, we've gone through a lot more than you have. We have earned our right to be arrogant." Unless the person writing that above, and those who share the sentiment, are 200 years old, WHAT THE HELL DID YOU GO THROUGH??

Aren't you the same people who think black people should stop complaining about slavery because they personally never experienced it?

Worse, the vast majority of black people in America CAN trace their family back to that dark/cruel era, and it was actually horrible.

Statistics will tell you, and I would love for you guys to look into this yourselves:

A)your families probably werent even in America in 1820-1850

B)They almost definitely werent in Texas.

C)If they were, and I'm sure one you nutbags will say his family has been in Texas since 1546, without any evidence or even detail, WHAT DID THOSE PEOPLE SUFFER THAT ALLOWS YOU TO EITHER SECEDE OR BE ARROGANT ABOUT LIVING IN AMERICA'S BIGGEST SANDBOX? NO A/C? NO A/C D/C?

What was so bad for the tiny tiny percentage of you who can claim Texan ancestry going back to 1830, that entitles you to anything? While simultaneously denying black people who's ancestors ACTUALLY SUFFERED at the hands of the US governement, have anything to compalin about?

Is hipocrisy the only remaining plank in the Republican party platform?

To all of you who keep saying that it's time to take action by saying you won't accept Obama's agenda, that his idea of what is best for our country is not what's best for you, now you know how the rest of us felt when your golden boy Dubya was in office. Up here in the northeast we were all saying the same thing, except instead of seceding we would have moved to Canada. Start taking responsibility for yourselves and stop blaming the government.

Wow, what does slavery have to do with anything? Loser. America is not about what's best for "the people" or "the collective." It's about the individual and when the government does something that's good for "everyone" at the expense of the individual, it's wrong, it's unjust and tyrannical. The FACT is that the government was not intended to have the power it does and that's wrong. The federal gov't may be trying to create a "commune" in which it's "all for one and one for all" which, in theory, is good but that's called Communism plain and simple.

Note: I'm NOT a Texan, just a poor soul trapped in the Liberal wasteland called Detroit. Liberals ruined Detroit, coming to a city near you.

ActionJackson, you are one angry black guy! (I assume you are black because of your comments and the fact that "Action Jackson" is a blacksploitation film.)I don't think slavery was ever mentioned anywhere on here except by you. You're nuts, dude. This discussion isn't about black or white. If you are that angry, try some Cymbalta or Zoloft and get into some therapy. You are what's wrong with this country, an over-sensitive, politically-correct moron who thinks everyone who says anything you disagree with is slapping you in the face. Grow up, man.

I'd like to go pretty far back into the comment list to address two issues both of which posted by no less, an anonymous blogger. First and foremost, Arjay as well as a few others seem to agree that the professor was mistaken when using a reference to the Declaration of Independence instead of the United States Constitution; however, I feel as it would seem the professor feels that while it is the Constitution that does not reserve nor grant the right of any state to secede from the Union it IS the Declaration of Independence that tells us that we must be our own judges; our politicians do not govern us, they serve us. The seccond idea I would like to address is that "it was not rednecks who gave us our freedoms. It was well educated, well read revolutionaries with the balls to stand up to the (at-the-time) government. To prove my point: They didn't start the shooting. They started by writing a letter. How many rednecks do you know what do it that way"? It in fact was us "dumb rednecks," but you are correct in the since that no, we did not start by firing shots, we started by throwing tea, along side those other revolutionaries who yes, were well educated and well read.

Anonymous said...

Isn't it strange that the "proud Texans/conservatives" are (nearly)always "anonymous"?

By the way, I am not black, I am 26 year old white guy. A shrimp farmer named Jackson; one who can trace his family back to the Revolutionary War. I am not whats wrong with this country.

I love this country, and to any conservative who entertains talk of declaring war on the United States by trying to secede, I can say plainly I love it more than you ever could.

I think conservatives like to talk about individuality because it distracts from that other more bothersome principal, democracy.

In a democracy the majority rules, and since 36% of Americans are Democracts, and only 26% are Republicans, we rule. This is the biggest gap in party identification since 1983, and if I were a Republican, I would also want to talk about "individualism" for a few years. (gallup.com)

You have the same rights to "love it or leave it!" as you so kindly offered us dems for 8 years, but you can't take your states with you.

If I could give you all some sage advice, it would be to fight back the way we did, by coming up with better (not perfect, or even good) alternatives to the policies you disagree with, and find a way to lock up your loonies. Rush, Hannity, and Beck are just embarassing the hell out of you guys...stick with the smarter ones...think Tony Blankly, David Brooks, and other conservatives who managed to get educated without becoming Democrats (it ain't easy to do!).

But in reality...we both know your party is up Sheet Creek, so to speak. Demographically, we are getting browner, not whiter...and hispanics vote Democratic like 3 or 4 to 1. Then there are the upcoming generations, also 3 to 1 Democratic...and the thing about young people is they live a lot longer than the soon to keel-over old white people serving as the denture glue of your once Grand Old Party. Welcome to your future!

ActionJackson. This country is NOT a democracy as you, and many others, believe. It is a Constitutional Democratic Republic. We do NOT have a majority rules system. The majority rules system has been a failure every time it has been tried and the remaining examples, i.e. Canada have been less than spectacular.

We have a Constitution to PREVENT the "tyranny of the majority" as it's called.

A few years ago when I was a liberal, I thought it would be a great idea if everyone could get online to vote on specific issues, but as many gay liberals discovered in California, majority rule IS tyranny as the masses are not incapable of ruling without infringing upon the freedoms of the individual.

Also, I love this country, but it is NOT unconditional. It is dependent upon our adherence to the principles set forth in the constitution. That's what makes this country great, not a specific geographical location. Geography means nothing. Principles, not geography.

Correction:

"the masses are not CAPABLE of ruling without infringing upon the freedoms of the individual."

Seriously you texans have no understanding at all. You guys really think Obama is turing america into a communist country.Do You know how much reform that will take.I agree obama is a liberal whack job
But he has no intentions for that. You should always support your president whether hes a democrat or a republican

Unknown said...

Who cares what obama's intentions are (like anyone really knows). The ideas this country was founded on have fallen by the wayside for some grand scheme of one world government. And it's been tried before and failed, over, and over. I cannot support any government that is seriously considering such a compromise of our liberty. I am about principals and geography. I won't give up my state- that's my principal. And those who say love it or leave it, I say keep it going in the direction it has been and we will leave it ( the U.S. ). Our state is not up for grabs. And it will never be just another state in the collective as long as we Texas are still here to resist it. So to all you so-called intellectuals from other states with no pride for your home, keep up your sharp tongued comments and your witty banter laced with derogatory names. It entertains me to know we get under your skin. As for us Texans we will just sit here in our (little ?) state and get things ready.

Harold Koh is Obama’s latest State Department nominee, and he has previously stated that “in appropriate cases, he didn’t see why Sharia law couldn’t be applied to U.S. LAW.” He obviously does NOT respect our Bill of Rights or Constitution if he thinks the examples below of Sharia Law are acceptable enough to be integrated into U.S. Law.

1. Islam commands offensive and aggressive and unjust jihad.
2. Islam orders apostates to be killed.
3. Islam orders death for Muslim and possible death for non—Muslim critics of Muhammad and the Quran and even sharia itself.
4. Islam orders unmarried fornicators to be whipped and adulterers to be stoned to death.
5. Islam commands that homosexuals must be executed.
6. Islam commands that highway robbers should be crucified or mutilated.
7. Islam commands that a male and female thief must have a hand cut off.
8. Islam allows an injured plaintiff to exact legal revenge—physical eye for physical eye.
9. Islam allows husbands to hit their wives even if the husbands merely fear highhandedness in their wives.
10. Islam commands that drinkers and gamblers should be whipped.

CALL THE WHITE HOUSE AT (202) 456-1111, and tell them what you think of Harold Koh as the latest nominee!!!

The Obama administration announced that the Pentagon would turn over to the American Civil Liberties Union 44 photographs that would show detainee abuse of prisoners. This administration could have opted to go all the way to the Supreme Court to try and keep these photographs from public view, but yesterday U.S. Attorney Lev L. Dassin wrote to District Judge Alvin Hellerstein and said the Pentagon was preparing to release 21 photos at issue in the appeal, in addition to 23 others. This material will be released to the ACLU no later than May 28th, 2009.

Lt. Thomas Mcinerney has it right when he said the “consequences to our Troops and America will be hurtful, because this will cause more attacks and be used as recruitment propaganda”. He stated we will most likely see the negative results shortly after their release on May 28th.
It is absolutely appalling to me that this administration would not do everything in their power to protect our Troops from the outrage and potential harm the release of these photos could cause them. This and the insult to our military with the recent Homeland Security Intelligence and Analysis assessment prepared by the Extremism and Radicalization Branch has many of us extremely concerned with the direction of our country, and the thought process currently being utilized by our leaders.

Contact the White House and let the President know how you feel about their decision to not go all the way to the Supreme Court to prevent the release of these photos. Ask them what substantive reason they have to allow the photos to be released?

You may have already seen the media reports that the budget is a done deal, and health care reconciliation is included. They are wrong. It is not yet a done deal, and we need you to ACT TODAY to stop it. Democratic leadership has agreed, but the actual conference report is not written by leadership, but by the specific conferees on the conference committee:

Senate
Kent Conrad (D-N. Dak.)
Patty Murray (D-Wash.)
Judd Gregg (R-N.H.)

House
John Spratt (D-S.C.)
Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.)
Allen Boyd (D-Fla.)
Paul Ryan (R-Wis.)
Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas)

If your senator or representative is on the committee, it is imperative that you send them a message today urging them to keep health care out of reconciliation. They are meeting THIS AFTERNOON, so time is of the essence. By far the most important two are Kent Conrad and Allen Boyd, Democrats who have been skeptical about using reconciliation.

If you know anyone in North Dakota or Florida's second district (Tallahassee, Panama City) please forward them this urgent email immediately!

Reconciliation is a trick, a procedure designed for deficit reduction being misused to jam through a government takeover of health care with only 20 hours of debate, no amendments, and just 50 votes instead of the usual 60. This trick will silence Republicans and centrist Democrats, and allow a radical leftist plan in which government takes away control of health care from patients and doctors, and rations care by denying it to people judged by bureaucrats to be too old or too sick to justify the cost.

WASHINGTON, DC - Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ranking Member on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, said today that the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) proposed endangerment finding will unleash a torrent of regulations that will destroy jobs, harm consumers, and extend the agency's reach into every corner of American life. Despite enormous expense and hardship for the American economy, these regulations will have virtually no effect on climate change.

"Today's action by the EPA is the beginning of a regulatory barrage that will destroy jobs, raise energy prices for consumers, and undermine America's global competitiveness," Senator Inhofe said. "It now appears EPA's regulatory reach will find its way into schools, hospitals, assisted living facilities, and just about any activity that meets minimum thresholds in the Clean Air Act. Rep. John Dingell was right: the endangerment finding will produce a ‘glorious mess.'

"It's worth noting that the solution to this ‘glorious mess' is not for Congress to pass cap-and-trade legislation, which replaces one very bad approach with another. Congress should pass a simple, narrowly-targeted bill that stops EPA in its tracks."

Read More From the Inhofe EPW Press Office about Potential Impacts of Endangerment Finding

Endangering Farmers, the Elderly, and Construction Workers: Once EPA makes a finding that greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare under the Clean Air Act, who, specifically, would be affected? As EPA's Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR) makes clear, an endangerment finding would lead to regulations covering nearly every facet of the American economy. In reading through comments filed in the regulatory docket, one is struck by how broadly the Clean Air Act would apply once an endangerment finding is made-especially to sources that have hitherto never come under the ambit of the Act. EPA received thousands of public comments from various industries and groups that expressed concern and outright opposition-on issues of cost, competitiveness, jobs, and administrative complexity-to greenhouse gas regulation under the CAA.

AN "HISTORIC" DAY: EPA's finding is indeed historic news, for the simple fact that it will enlarge EPA's regulatory reach to an unprecedented degree, extending it into every corner of the US economy, causing enormous economic damage. According to Peter Glaser, a national legal expert on the Clean Air Act, an endangerment finding will lead to new EPA regulations covering virtually everything, including "office buildings, apartment buildings, warehouse and storage buildings, educational buildings, health care buildings such as hospitals and assisted living facilities, hotels, restaurants, religious worship buildings, public assembly buildings, supermarkets, retail malls, agricultural facilities...and many others." An array of new development projects could be delayed, perhaps for several years, causing "an economic train wreck." This conclusion was supported recently by the Heritage Foundation's Center for Data Analysis, which found that EPA's new carbon regulations would destroy over 800,000 jobs and result in a cumulative GDP loss of $7 trillion by 2029.

Risky Legal Schemes: "...hospitals, schools, farms, commercial buildings, and a host of other small sources emit more than 250 tons per year of CO2-a limit expressly mentioned in the statute-they will be required, once an endangerment finding is made and CO2 becomes a regulated pollutant, to obtain costly, burdensome pre-construction permits for their activities...Further, Glaser notes that "the statutory language is mandatory and does not leave any room for EPA to exercise discretion or create exceptions." Link In short, unless Congress exempts them, there's no way out for schools, assisted living facilities, and thousands upon thousands of small businesses."

Global Warming Czar Carol Browner was — until recently — listed as one of 14 leaders of a socialist group that advocates what's called "global governance" and says rich countries must shrink their economies to address climate change. The Washington Times reports Browner's name and biography were listed on the Web page for Socialist International .

Mr. Obama's transition team says Browner's membership in the organization is not a problem and that it brings experience in policymaking to her new role. But House Minority Leader John Boehner’s spokeswoman Antonia Ferrier asks, “Does she agree with the group's positions on global governance- that the United States should abdicate its international leadership to international organizations? Does she support its position that the international community should be the ultimate arbiter of climate change policy?"

Mr. Obama has said action on climate change will be a priority in his administration. (Bret Baier story ends here)

(Carol Browner received a B.A. in English and a law degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville. She does NOT have an education in Climatology or Environmental Science)

Get the truth instead from a professor of environmental sciences at the University of Virginia and a senior fellow in environmental studies at the Cato Institute. Patrick J. Michaels is an Author of “Climate of Extremes”

About the book:

There’s a whole new world of global warming science today, but few people hear about it. In recent years, an internally consistent body of scientific literature has emerged that argues cogently for global warming but against the gloom-and-doom vision of climate change. But those who merely call attention to this literature are intimidated, blacklisted, and even driven from prestigious scientific employment. Calling the current scientific environment a “climate of extremes” is an understatement.

It’s a fact that there are fewer citations in the refereed scientific literature providing evidence for the moderate view of global warming, but that’s to be expected. In Climate of Extremes, climatologists Patrick J. Michaels and Robert Balling Jr. explain that climate science is hardly unbiased, even though the global climate community itself believes that any new finding has an equal probability of making our climatic future appear more or less dire.

Michaels and Balling examine all aspects of the apocalyptic vision of climate change making headlines almost every day: Hurricanes pumped up by global warming, rapid melting of Greenland and Antarctica resulting in 20 feet of sea-level rise in the next 90 years, that global warming is occurring at an increasing pace, and there is a massive increase in heat-wave related deaths. Each one of these pop-culture icons of climate change turns out to be short on facts and long on exaggeration. People who read Climate of Extremes will emerge well-armed against an army of extremists hawking climate change as the greatest threat ever to our society and way of life.

Here are examples of why I feel that Obama nominees are huge mistakes!!! You can find most of this information on the Wikipedia Free Encyclopedia of each of these individuals.

Rohm Emmanuel as White House Chief of Staff

Emanuel is known for his "take-no-prisoners attitude" that has earned him the nickname "Rahm-bo”.
Emanuel is said to have "mailed a rotten fish to a former coworker after the two parted ways. On the night after the 1996 election, "Emanuel was so angry at the president's enemies that he stood up at a celebratory dinner with colleagues from the campaign, grabbed a steak knife and began rattling off a list of betrayers, shouting 'Dead! ... Dead! ... Dead!' and plunging the knife into the table after every name.
Oh Yes, this seemed like a logical choice for Obama as his right hand man!

Eric Holder as Attorney General

An investigation championed by Republican House Government Reform Committee chairman Rep. Dan Burton concluded, in a 2003 report covering 177 Clinton pardons, that Holder had played a significant role in facilitating the Rich pardon, first by recommending the well-connected Jack Quinn to legal representatives of Marc Rich, by failing to fully inform prosecutors of the pending pardon, and by eventually delivering a "neutral leaning favorable" opinion of the twilight pardon to the President from a position of authority. In 1983, financier Rich was indicted for evading more than $48 million in taxes, and charged with 51 counts of tax fraud, as well as running illegal oil deals with Iran during the 1979-1980 hostage crisis. Holder was also involved in Clinton's decision to reduce the criminal sentences of 16 members of the Boricua Popular Army, an organization that has been categorized by the FBI as a terrorist organization.

Carol M. Browner became Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change

The new Climate Czar was listed as one of 14 leaders of a socialist group's Commission for a Sustainable World Society, which calls for "global governance" and says rich countries must shrink their economies to address climate change. She has also claimed that global warming is "the greatest challenge ever faced". She has been put in charge of the climate yet she does not have an education in Climatology or Environmental science. She has a B.A. in ENGLISH and a law degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Timothy Geithner as Treasury Secretary

He will be in charge of the IRS yet he didn’t even pay his OWN taxes! He owed 4 years, however two of those years were beyond the statute of limitations, therefore he chose to not pay up until he became NOMINATED. Where is the integrity here?

Leon Panetta as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency

During his time in Congress, his work concentrated mostly on budget issues, civil rights, education, health, and environmental issues, particularly preventing oil drilling off the California coast.
He does not have ANY INTELLIGENCE experience at all, so why is he in charge of the CIA?

Janet Ann Napolitano as United States Secretary of Homeland Security

This woman should be FIRED, she signed off on the recent Department of Homeland Security threat assessment report which insults Military Veterans and targets them as potential disgruntled rightwing extremists. The assessment states that basically anyone with pretty much a conservative viewpoint should be watched as a potential rightwing extremist. This is an absolute violation of our First Amendment rights, and to try and make the public feel scared to express any opposition because NOW they will be watched by Homeland Security is an insult to everything this country was founded on.
She continues to put her foot in her mouth pretty much every week, just watch her and you will see!

Obama is just one man who I feel was not qualified, yet pushed forward by the liberal media!

Barack Hussein Obama II Obama was a Freshman United States Senator with only three years of experience from Jan 2005 to November 2008. He began his run for the presidency in February 2007, so he pretty much only served two years before his LEAP to the Presidency. The National Journal ranked him as the "most liberal" senator based on an assessment of selected votes during 2007. Try and find one single bill that Obama actually WROTE during those two years as an accomplishment, and note how he was great at not making a decision, but instead voting “PRESENT”. He does not seem capable of speaking well without a teleprompter, and takes forever to answer just one question so he can time himself out and answer as few as possible. Many of us have also noted how he is never asked tough questions by the Washington NON-PRESS Corp. Instead he is asked ridiculous questions like how “ENCHANTED” he feels. These are troubling times, and there are many important questions to be addressed in our nation and no time to waste on nonsense!

The United States of America was founded with the original 13 colonies that were owned by the English until the American Revolution. The colonies were run to only maximize profits for England, and this system was very unpleasant for the colonies.

They had a subsequent rebellion followed by the Declaration of Independence. They immediately began to generate a government that would defend against any future tyrannical profit driven policy and created our Constitution.

Our Constitution was created in a manner in which we would have a set of laws designed to be mutually exclusive. They understood that there is an established historical precedent showing that private interests try to gain control of governments and use the government to extract resources from the people.

The 9th and 10th Amendments to the Constitution seek to PRESERVE the autonomy of state government to create an independent, fragmented and diverse set of many governments. This ensured that should an interest seek to control our government, it would have to dominate many diverse states, each with different rules and regulations, as well as a federal government.

We should support the states that reclaim their legitimate role in federal affairs and legislation and thus cause the federal government to divest itself of operations not authorized by the Constitution and extract the federal government from such enterprises, whether or not they compete with private enterprise

Support Texas H.C.R. No. 50!

A lot of people have said that big spending won't save our economy. But neither will small spending. If you look at the history of the great depression, hoover only made the situation worse by not spending. Supposedly one of the best ways to fix the economy is by putting lots of money into it.

Secondly, socialism is what cured the great depression. It wasn't just World war 2 it was that the government was controlling production, and increasing production to full ca[acoty, in order to fight the war, and this provided lots of people with jobs.

Are they really even talking about seceding? I know there was a document which was demanding sovereignty, but those aren't really the same things. Basically, I thought they were just trying to eliminate unconstitutional federal control. The idea of seceding at all sounds like a big joke, which people are taking seriously.

I dont give a rats ass they can take nasa they can take bases- I want to live in a republic- like the founding fathers of the united states found I am tired of watching my country go down. See what the Russians are saying about us:

http://english.pravda.ru/opinion/columnists/107459-0/

American capitalism gone with a whimper

It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheep, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.

True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists.

Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters.

First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blind the foolish.

Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the "winning" side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America.

The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.

These past two weeks have been the most breath taking of all. First came the announcement of a planned redesign of the American Byzantine tax system, by the very thieves who used it to bankroll their thefts, loses and swindles of hundreds of billions of dollars. These make our Russian oligarchs look little more then ordinary street thugs, in comparison. Yes, the Americans have beat our own thieves in the shear volumes. Should we congratulate them?

AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA

Dear President Obama:

You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me.

You scare me because after months of exposure, I still know nothing about you.

You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support.

You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America, and culturally you are not an American.

You scare me because you have never run a company or met a payroll.

You scare me because you have never had military experience, thus don't understand it at its core..

You scare me because you lack humility and 'class', - always blaming others is your forte.

You scare me because for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish fervently to see America fail.

You scare me because you are a cheerleader for the 'blame America ' crowd and deliver this message openly and often abroad.

You scare me because you want to change America to a European style country where the government sector dominates instead of the private enterprise and entreprenorship.

You scare me because you want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one.

You scare me because you prefer 'wind mills' to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves.

You scare me because you want to kill the American capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living in the world.

You scare me because you have begun to use 'extortion' tactics against certain banks and corporations.

You scare me because your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your
wild and irresponsible spending proposals.

You scare me because you will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people.

You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient, - egomaniac comes to mind.

You scare me because the media gives you a free pass on everything you do, even though thats getting to be the norm by them these days for Liberals.

You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O'Relllys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view.

You scare me because you prefer controlling over governing.

Finally, you scare me because if you serve for a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar public letter in say, five years.

My feeling is more on how could Texas survive as its own country. Yes they could build a nice economy, but what about military? They would need to buy their own weaponry and enlist soldiers. They would also cease to be US citizens, which means more border control there. Plus I wonder if Mexico would be a factor in hurting Texas, be it illegals or even drug cartels looking to muscle in?

How much Homeland Security would the COUNTRY of Texas have? Would Al Quaida slither in to use Texas as a port for more US attacks? At that point the US government would then treat Texas the way it did Iraq and Afghanistan.

What about things it needs from the rest of the country? Buy them? What if the price is too high and suddenly the economy os Texas is in shambles? How many Texans, especially educated professionals, would leave to stay US Citizens?

Be careful what you ask for, because just leaving isn't an easy answer. You could wake up with a small country with no military, harder economy, and many bright minds running across the border to leave for good, while many uneducated peasant class come rolling in to undercut the job salaries of the natives.

Texas is the only state that can leave because when they signed into being a state they were a republic and keep the fact that they could leave any time they wanted so the US can not keep them from leaving because the reserved the right to

To all of those that think many services, businesses, industries, and people will leave Texas should a secession occur: You have failed to consider the other side of the coin. Think of how many Texas residents/natives in the military who would most likely refuse to turn on their own when commanded, and likely declare their allegiance to the Republic Of Texas and come back and fight for it's independence, as well as other native and NON-native civilians outside of who share the same sentiment and beliefs, socially and politically, who would also emigrate/defect to Texas in droves to support the drive for independence, as supported by many posters in this very blog. Do not forget, Texas is heavily armed, even without the military, and I do believe the military bases, installations, and all property that lies within would fall under siege to the newly seceded republic, purely by reason of them lying within the newly independent borders, thus arming a new Texas military. There are enough gunsmiths and foundries within Texas to keep a newly created military armed and ready, plus it creates new jobs in the military manufacturing sector. Other companies that manufacture military components like McDonnel-Douglas, Boeing, Stewart and Stevenson, and many of their related technological companies that are within close proximity, etc, also lie within TX, so I'm quite sure they would stay (due to reasons stated in the paragraph below).

Texas provides a great economic climate to do commerce in, with lower costs of operation (and living), at-will employment, low union presence, and tax breaks to invigorate commerce. With many of the technologies being applied worldwide today with many of those technologies originating in Texas, it seems the commerce segment here would thrive, and you can bet Texas will be the hub of worldwide oil & gas operations, as well as research for alternatives. Since NASA has some funding reductions/issues by the US gov't I do believe Texas would retain NASA and the US would be happy to let go of that financial burden. Texas could be free to do trade with other nations who would find Texas a very hospitable place to do business, as Toyota already has done with their manufacturing plant outside of San Antonio (for example).

Imports into TX from the US could have tariffs levied upon them, should the US want to play economic hardball; that could curtail US production and increase TX imports from other nations the US does business with as well...it just seems like a win/win situation for TX to declare it's independence.

An observation: Blue states with the highest taxation of their independent commerce and constituents/residents to spend in social programs and etc, also seem to have the highest costs of living, the highest unemployment rates, and the most fiscally challenged state budgets. A coincidence?

545 PEOPLE
By Charlie Reese

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason.. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits.. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House?
It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red ..

If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ , it's because they want them in IRAQ

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

I'm from Ohio, my family lives in Texas... if Texas goes... I'm going with them and I'm bringing a looootttttt of people with me. It's all one big move to the One World Government now. Bush threw us into a confusing, hectic state and Obama promised he'd fix everything and "Change" America...those words sound good... but it's decieving. He's finishing off America, throwing all of our money out the window so we can start anew in the one world government. I plea to the Texans that they secede. Ohio is getting tired of Obama already, and we can't secede; it's just not strategic. The America we knew, that we were born in, is GONE. The America that we celebrate on the fourth of july is now a memorial service for what America WAS.

"Governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed... Whenever government becomes destructive to life, liberty, or property [i.e., the pursuit of happiness], it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it... It is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security."
— American Declaration of Independence (1776)

God Bless Texas!

I'm all for secession. Whether or not the Dec of Independence is illegal or not (I don't think so, personally) as one person posted - it does say in the second paragraph that if the govt doesn't serve you, you have a right to abolish it and form a new government. That being said, isn't the concept of secession consistent with freedom?

I am a 25 year old female who was born in Texas, lived in Connecticut for a while and returned (Thank God) to Texas. This blog gives me such hope in very dark times. People who are pretending like everything is ok are seriously fooling themselves. Texans are not uneducated, gun happy fools like many people like to pretend we are. I am terrified of where our nation is headed and am afraid that my generation is brainwashed by our liberal media. I am happy to see that so many people still believe in state's rights, which is what I was raised to believe in. I went through a period in my life where I thought I should be liberal and "open minded" like all of my peers. What I found is that those who consider themselves the most "open minded" are really the most ignorant, close minded ones of us all. They are following the piper right off the cliff into hopelessness. Thanks to those of you who still believe in state's rights, especially ya'll from other states who support us "crazy rednecks" down here. We'll be more than happy to have you!

After what should be called the "War of Northern Aggression" when the northern union won, all school history books and such were written by the north. It has always been that the winners decide what will be known in the future, therefore most history generally accepted is half truths or lies. For example, the north federal govt would like people to believe that slavery was the biggest issue when it just wasn't, states rights was at the front of the train. All this brings us back to the right of secession. If you look at the causes of our current economic problems there are several main causes. First and foremost would be the federal govt, thousand of useless laws and programs designed to disrupt the checks and balances and create a govt closer to communism than true democracy. Second and just as important and the northern unions, whom I can only assume took their names from the war. These so. Alled unions are not but gangsters who do nothing but hold back companies and employees. As to the issues of Texas's survival, we have all the oil and power we need, we have our Texas border patrol and texas coast guard, we have three of the 20 largest cities in America, and we tend to have better work ethics and plain sense than many other states.

If Texas does secede, the first thing that should happen is the legalization of marijuana. The fed govt has no real right to criminalize this substance when all, ALL, research has proven it to be a madicinal herb that cannot be compared with the extremely harmfull effects of ciggarettes. For example, I have never known a marijuana smoker to be violent to the extreme extent as to hitting their wife, or even had a serious car accident, but it seems to happen often enough with alcohal. Now why is tobbaco and alcohal legal when marijuana isn't, because people are too ignorant a d let the fed govt have their way.

DAVY said...

The Civil War took nothing away. Those laws are still on the books and were never abrogated!

Anonymous said...

To the person who wants the legalization of marijuana? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? People who are using marijuana are absolutely clueless while they are drugged up. They mumble pure stupidy with their glazed over stoned looks while they are completely incapable of being productive of anything other than wanting to stay in that zombie state. The last thing the U.S. needs is legalization of a drug that causes further reckless behavior in which people are pretty much zoned out and can't take responsibility for their own actions.

We should support the states that reclaim their legitimate role in federal affairs and legislation and thus cause the federal government to divest itself of operations not authorized by the Constitution and extract the federal government from such enterprises, whether or not they compete with private enterprise.

This worries me...RESEARCH IT! H1N1

Dr. Holdren is the co-author of the 1977 book, Ecoscience, which calls for massive global depopulation using sterilizing vaccinations.

There is information that Nonoxynol-9, a spermicidal drug causing spontaneous abortions in pregnant women, and birth defects in infants, is one of the many new “adjuvants” used in the H1N1 flu vaccines

Research the other ingredients in the H1N1 vaccine, see if you find this: Mercury (Thimerosal) a NEURO TOXIN, and Aluminum- which is associated with Alzheimer's disease and • Squalene – has been strongly associated with such diseases as multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, ALS and • Ethylene glycol (antifreeze) and • Phenol, also known as carbolic acid (this is used as a disinfectant, dye) and • Formaldehyde, a known cancer-causing agent and • Neomycin and Streptomycin

Listed possible side effects:

• hot flashes or flushing
• chills or shivering
• dizziness
• generalized weakness
• fainting shortly after vaccination
• nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhea
• loss of appetite
• abdominal pain
• back pain
• lymph node enlargement
• temporary decrease in the number of blood platelets, which may increase the risk of bleeding
• bleeding
• decrease in red blood cells, or anemia, which may make you feel tired.
• high blood pressure (hypertension)
• shortness of breath
• wheezing
• chest tightness
• chest pain
• cough
• sore throat
• runny nose
• “pins and needles” in the skin
• sweating
• skin disorders related to allergic reaction (which can lead to rash and skin loss)
• inflammation of blood vessels (including inflammation of blood vessels that may cause short-term effect on kidneys)
• confusion
• headaches similar to those described as migraine
• seizures associated with fever
• spinal cord or brain inflammation (encephalomyelitis)
• paralysis
• muscle weakness
• infection
• life-threatening and/or debilitating disorders of the nervous system“

(2) Regrets says:
I got both vaccines on Thursday. I was 9 weeks pregnant. I miscarried on Sunday. I was told by several doctors to get these vaccines. Now I wish I followed my gut feeling and not get them at ALL!

October 29, 2009 at 8:33 am
(3) says: i work in a hospital like setting and was told 'the benefits outweigh the risks" 1am i got the vaccine, 3am i started bleeding and craming, 3pm miscarried. you decide
October 31, 2009 at 1:29 pm

(4) sue says: I had the H1N1 vaccination and 24 hours later had a miscarriage.

October 31, 2009 at 8:25 pm
(5) Linda Hill says: My daughter in law was 10 weeks pregnant and had the H1N1 vaccine on Friday that night she miscarried.
November 2, 2009 at 10:52 pm

(7) SoSorry says:
I was so ready to get the H1N1 vaccine last week and they were only giving them to pregnant women. I was 6 weeks along and got it and the next day I started cramping and miscarried. I already had two healthy pregnancies and never miscarried or had any problems. My doctors think I am crazy to think it was the H1N1 but if no one looks into this than other women will not know. I am so sorry that I got it.

November 3, 2009 at 4:30 pm
(8) Connie says:
I also received the H1N1 vaccination on October 22nd, 2009 and went into labor on October 25th, at 16 weeks pregnant and we just heard the heartbeat and everything was fine with my pregnancy on October 16th, 2009, then on October 28th my water broke then on October 29th, I delivered a stillborn baby boy, and no one can tell me why…Everyone wants to say it did not come from the shot but I believe it did. My baby was growing at the correct pace and everyone wants to brush off the vaccination. I say if you have the vaccination and suffer a miscarriage if they are able to perform an autopsy have it done.

November 3, 2009 at 4:34 pm
(9) Connie says:
I also agree something needs to be done and looked more into with this vaccination because most women are being advised it's just something that happens, but I also had two healthy children normal pregnancies and when I received this vaccination with my third pregnancy, my baby is gone. Contact me at connie.adams@rocketmail.com
November 4, 2009 at 10:12 pm

(10) sioux falls, south dakota says:
I received the H1N1 vaccine on October 16th and started experiencing cramping on the 22nd. I was nearly 17 weeks pregnant and gave birth to a stillborn baby boy on the 23rd. Like many of the other women here, the first thing I suspected was the H1N1 vaccine.

My family and I are very worried about the direction of this country under this administration and we are extremely concerned with a federal government over reaching, and creating illegitimate mandates against the people that are not supported by our constitution.

We need an immediate injunction against any federal taxes mandated for any purpose that is not clearly supported by our constitution. We need the Texas State legislature to exercise the power of the 9th & 10th Amendments to preserve the sovereignty of Texas.

We see tyranny on the horizon, and we must all defend Texas sovereignty.

It was NEVER intended by the constitution for the Gov’t to take over the Banking Industry, Auto Industry, Energy Industry and Healthcare. The founding fathers intended LIMITED Government and individual freedom so we could prosper as we have in the past.

Now we have a Gov’t that has INCREASED SPENDING by 120% in the past 12 months, and the spending recently has surpassed all the combined spending since the founding of our country.

This is an extremely reckless and unsustainable path as the Gov’t PRODUCES NOTHING, and only CONSUMES our tax dollars! Every single entitlement program the Gov’t has run has gone into bankruptcy or will shortly, and when they get into trouble, they simply PRINT more U.S. dollars and that is why the value of the U.S. dollar is going down, and gold has skyrocketed over the past year. This means it will take more U.S. dollars to buy the same items as the world loses confidence in the U.S. dollar because of the fiscal irresponsibility of this government.

The GENERATIONAL THEFT that is occurring will be one of the greatest regrets of young Americans in the future, as they will be the ones with the largest burden of enormous taxes and interest rates to pay for all this madness.

Secession isn't legal, but it doesn't have to be. Because it's not a legal Constitutional right doesn't mean that it's not a natural extention of the people's basic human rights to secure freedom for themselves.
If Texas secedes, the government will have to make a response. Because Texas will no longer recognize the authority of the Supreme Court, the only available responses will be political, such as an embargo, isolation, pressure on nations to not recognize, etc., or a military one.
The government will declare martial law and move troops down into Texas. Because this will all be broadcast on TV and across the internet, everyone will get to see an occupied Texas and what it looks like when your government walks down Main Street like it's Baghdad.
When a Texan gets shot by a member of the military and it gets broadcast to the world, opinion will be divided between support for the common man and support for an intact United States.
When this happens the United States will be finished. The power of our Federal government will be unable to control all people everywhere at once, and the more they try to screw the lid down the more people will resent it. There's no way they can enforce martial law across the country, and even if they could, the idea of the US being a country where you would want to live, the "American Dream" will have been destroyed.
Maybe when we create the "Second American Republic" we'll use the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence as guiding documents when we draft our own constitution, making sure to limit the new Federal powers sufficiently.

I don't live in Texas. I did in the past, and am seriously considering moving back. I currently live in Kansas. I'm retired and I paid into Social Security and Medicare all my life.
I don't consider them a handout, but I do know that the government has pretty well bankrupted both of them. Though the years, the govenment has borrowed from them, and never paid back. If I lose them because I live somewhere that I can't draw them, that's my decision, (course people live all over the world and draw their Social Security), but if I lose them because the government decides not to give them to me, or make cuts to them, where I can no longer live on the Social Security or get the medical care that I paid for all my working life -- and still pay premiums for every month, then I don't want that government. I'd rather not have the Medicare than have it rationed to me. I'm sure I can get a job that will pay me close to what I get on SS. But, my medical is another thing. Without insurance, I get no medication and see no doctors, and I have health problems that require medication and medical care. But if I do without it, I want it to be my choice, NOT THE GOVERNMENTS!! Belive me none of you want the government to run your health care. The old and disabled are something the politions have decided the country can do without. -- Gee, wasn't it Hitler, that had that same idea?
Americans -- take back the United States; get back to the Declaration of Independance; get back to the Constituion. Get the politions out of Politics -- that way you can elect citizens that OWE NO FAVORS!!!

Cato said...

You guys need to abandon the idea that getting back to the Constitution is what's going to fix everything. The Constitution, as great as it's been, is outdated. It was written by men who could never have forseen what changes the country, and society have been through.

One of the primary strengths of the Constitution is that it is flexible, but this is also the primary weakness most exploited to weaken it. This country is in the shape it's in because of the Constitution, not in spite of it.

The powers that the federal government have are either granted to it specifically by the Constitution, or by provisions in the Constitution that allow the federal government to grant itself new powers.

The Constitution is no longer strong enough to prevent the government from taking power.

We need to go back to something closer to the Articles of Confederation, which provided for a confederation of states, rather than a national government.

And if we can't do that, this country needs to be abolished in favor of a new Republic.

Dr. David Barton - on Obama

Respect the Office? Yes.
Respect the man in the Office? No, I am sorry to say.

I have noted that many elected officials, both Democrats and Republicans, called upon America to unite behind Obama.

Well, I want to make it clear to all who will listen that I AM NOT
uniting behind Obama !

I will respect the Office which he holds, and I will acknowledge his
abilities as an orator and wordsmith and pray for him, BUT that is it.

I have begun today to see what I can do to make sure that he is a
one-term President !

Why am I doing this ?

It is because:

- I do not share Obama's vision or value system for America;
- I do not share his Abortion beliefs;
- I do not share his radical Marxist's concept of re-distributing wealth;
- I do not share his stated views on raising taxes on those who make
$150,000+ (the ceiling has been changed three times since August);
- I do not share his view that America is Arrogant;
- I do not share his view that America is not a Christian Nation;
- I do not share his view that the military should be reduced by 25%;
- I do not share his view of amnesty and giving more to illegals than our
American Citizens who need help;
- I do not share his views on homosexuality and his definition of marriage;
- I do not share his views that Radical Islam is our friend
and Israel is our enemy who should give up any land;
- I do not share his spiritual beliefs (at least the ones he has made
public);
- I do not share his beliefs on how to re-work the healthcare system
in America;
- I do not share his Strategic views of the Middle East; and
- I certainly do not share his plan to sit down with terrorist regimes such
as Iran.

Bottom line: my America is vastly different from Obama's, and I have a higher obligation to my Country and my GOD to do what is Right !

For eight (8) years, the Liberals in our Society, led by numerous
entertainers who would have no platform and no real credibility but for their celebrity status, have attacked President Bush, his family, and his spiritual beliefs !

They have not moved toward the center in their beliefs and their
philosophies, and they never came together nor compromised their personal beliefs for the betterment of our Country!

They have portrayed my America as a land where everything is tolerated except being intolerant!

They have been a vocal and irreverent minority for years!
They have mocked and attacked the very core values so important to the founding and growth of our Country !

They have made every effort to remove the name of GOD or Jesus Christ from our Society !

They have challenged capital punishment, the right to
bear firearms, and the most basic principles of our criminal code!

They have attacked one of the most fundamental of all Freedoms,
the right of free speech!

Unite behind Obama? Never ! ! !

Cash For Clunkers Govt Cash Cow!

Just look at how the stupid car buyer got taken to the cleaners:

If you traded in a clunker worth $3500, you get $4500 off for an apparent "savings" of $1000.

However, you have to pay taxes on the $4500 come April 15th!!!(something that no auto dealer will tell you). If you are in the 30% tax bracket, you will pay $1350on that $4500.

So, rather than save $1000, you actually pay an extra $350 to the feds. In addition, you traded in a car that was most likely paid for. Now you have 4 or 5 years of payments on a car that you did not need, that was costing you less to run than the payments that you will now be making.

But wait; it gets even better: you also got ripped off by the dealer.

For example, every dealer here in LA was selling the Ford Focus with all the goodies, including A/C, auto transmission, power windows, etc for $12,500 the month before the "cash for clunkers" program started.

When "cash for clunkers" came along, they stopped discounting them and instead sold them at the list price of $15,500. So, you paid $3000 more than you would have the month before.. (Honda, Toyota , and Kia played the same list price game that Ford and Chevy did).

So let's do the final tally here:

You traded in a car worth: $3500
You got a discount of: $4500
---------
Net so far
+$1000
But you have to pay: $1350in taxes on the $4500
--------
Net so far: -$350
And you paid: $3000 more than the car was selling for the month before
----------
Net -$3350

We could also add in the additional taxes (sales tax, state tax, etc.) on the extra $3000 that you paid for the car, along with the 5 years of interest on the car loan, but let's just stop here.

So who actually made out on the deal? The feds collected taxes on the car along with taxes on the $4500 they "gave" you. The car dealers made an extra $3000 or more on every car they sold along with the kickbacks from the manufacturers and the loan companies. The manufacturers got to dump lots of cars they could not give away the month before. And the poor, stupid consumer got saddled with even more debt that they cannot afford.

Obama and his band of merry men convinced Joe consumer that he was getting $4500 in "free" money from the "government" when in fact, Joe was giving away his $3500 car and paying an additional $3350 for the privilege.

Think this was stupid for those who were crazy enough to swallow this wonderful scheme?

Just wait until we get health care with no additional costs over what most of us now pay for health insurance and the best medical care in the world. Think that scheme might be designed by the same people who came up with Cash for Clunkers?

Examples of the recent pork-barrel earmarks, vote buying and political corruption in this health care bill. If your Senators are Republicans, THANK THEM for voting against this bill!

Senator Ben Nelson got an unprecedented deal to force federal taxpayers to pick up 100% of the cost of Nebraska's Medicaid expansion--forever.

Connecticut's Senator, Christopher Dodd, got a $100 million earmark for a hospital at the University of Connecticut.

Vermont Senators Pat Leahy and Bernie Sanders, who had been threatening to oppose the bill from the Left, got an extra $250 million in Medicaid funding.

In Florida, Senator Bill Nelson got three counties carved out of Medicare Advantage cuts that will happen everywhere else in the country.

Of course we know about the "Louisiana Purchase" where Reid and Obama paid $300 million of our taxpayer dollars to the pet projects of Senator Landrieu to secure her vote.

In TEXAS, we get screwed by having 20 BILLION in UNFUNDED mandates, which means funding FROM other areas in Texas will have to be displaced in order to pay for this
unconstitutional healthcare mandate.

Call Governor Rick Perry and ask him to call a Special Session of the legislature for January 2010, to pass a resolution of Nullification of unconstitutional federal laws.

The Gov’t takeover of the Auto, Energy, Financial & Healthcare industries is UNCONSTITUTIONAL and therefore should be NULLIFED by the Republic of Texas!

MERRY CHRISTMAS, here are some postive things about Texas, and why our mostly CONSERVATIVE state rocks!

The Lone Star State is currently No. 1 in the country for job creation and business relocation.
(Except if your a liberal, please don't move here and vote in the same people that caused you to leave your liberal State to begin with)

The state's unemployment rate is fully two points below the national average.

Texas has racked up significant accomplishments that make Texas number one. Texas is first in the nation in business relocation, government transparency, lawsuit reform, top exporting state, top state for business, most Fortune 500 companies, and number one in electricity competition.

The Lone Star State has created more jobs in 2009 than all other states combined.
(Yes, TEXAS will be supporting the rest of the nation)

Currently, the State of Texas is the only large state with a budget surplus and one of only a handful of states in the country which are not in the red!

(Now, we will continue to THRIVE as long as liberals don't flock here for jobs, and vote in the same morons that made them leave their State to begin with!)

Some information for you to remember when you vote in 2010:

1. U.S. House & Senate have voted themselves $4,700 and $5,300 raises.

2. They voted to NOT give you a Social Security cost of living raise in 2010 and 2011.

3. Your Medicare premiums will go up $285.60 for the 2 years and you WILL NOT get the 3% COLA. Your total 2 year loss and cost is $1,600 or $3,200 for husband and wife.

4. Over 2 years THEY each get $10,000. How’s that hope and change working out for you?

5. Will they increase your cost of drugs - doctor fees - local taxes - food, etc?

Do you really think that Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Chris Dodd, Charlie Rangel, Barnie Frank, et. al., care about you? They voted THEMSELVES a nice raise and better benefits – so typical of the socialist ruling class!

My dog

My dog sleeps about 20 hours a day. She has her food prepared for her. She can eat whenever she wants, 24/7/365. Her meals are provided at no cost to her. She visits the Dr. once a year for her checkup, and again during the year if any medical needs arise. For this she pays nothing, and nothing is required of her.

She lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much larger than she needs, but she is not required to do any upkeep. If she makes a mess, someone else cleans it up. She has her choice of luxurious places to sleep. She receives these accommodations absolutely free. She is living like a queen, and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever.

All of her costs are picked up by others who go out and earn a living every day.

I was just thinking about all this, and suddenly it hit me like a brick in the head,

Holy Cow, my dog is a democrat!

Here is a graph that illustrates the percentage of each past president's cabinet who had worked in the private business sector prior to their appointment to the cabinet. You know what the private business sector is... a real life business, not a government job.

T. Roosevelt..........38%
Taft.......................40%
Wilson ................. 52%
Harding.................49%
Coolidge.............. 48%
Hoover................. 42%
F. Roosevelt......... 50%
Truman.................50%
Eisenhower.......... 57%
Kennedy.............. 30%
Johnson.................47%
Nixon................... 53%
Ford.....................42%
Carter...................32%
Reagan.................56%
GHW Bush...........51%
Clinton .................39%
GW Bush............. 55%

And the winner of the Chicken Dinner is...

Obama................ 8% !!!

Yep! That's right! Only Eight Percent!!! The least, by far, of the last 19 presidents!! And these people are trying to tell our big corporations how to run their business? They know what's best for GM... Chrysler... Wall Street... Health care... and you and me?

How can the president of a major nation and society... the one with the most successful economic system in world history... stand and talk about business when he's never worked for one? Or about jobs when he has never really had one??? What authority or experience does he have to decide who is rich and what salaries should be!!!

And neither has 92% of his senior staff and closest advisers! They've spent most of their time in academia, government and/or non-profit jobs....or as "community organizers"... when they should have been in an employment line. Their incompetence is destroying us!!!

Info by Constitutional Attorney:

I have read the entire text of proposed House Bill 3200: The Affordable Health Care Choices Act of 2009. I studied it with particular emphasis from my area of expertise, constitutional law.

The law DOES provide for rationing of health care, particularly where senior citizens and other classes of citizens are involved, free health care for illegal immigrants, free abortion services, and probably forced participation in abortions by members of the medical profession.

The Bill will also eventually force private insurance companies out of business, and put everyone
into a government run system. All decisions about personal health care will ultimately be made by federal bureaucrats, and most of them will not be health care professionals. Hospital admissions, payments to physicians, and allocations of necessary medical devices will be strictly controlled by the government.

However, as scary as all of that is, it just scratches the surface. In fact, I have concluded that this legislation really has no intention of providing affordable health care choices. Instead it is a convenient cover for the most massive transfer of power to the Executive Branch of government that has ever occurred, or even been contemplated If this law or a similar one is adopted, major portions of the Constitution of the United States will effectively have been destroyed.

The first thing to go will be the masterfully crafted balance of power between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of the U.S. Government. The Congress will be transferring to the Obama Administration authority in a number of different areas over the lives of the American people, and the businesses they own.

The irony is that the Congress doesn't have any authority to legislate in most of those areas to begin with! I defy anyone to read the text of the U.S. Constitution and find any authority granted to the members of Congress to regulate health care.

I find it interesting how Liberals seem to enjoy demonizing business owners and how there appears to be this envy over anyone who succeeds.

There is absolutely NO REASON why anyone cannot start their own business and be a business owner in the United States.

All you need is ambition, a plan and to save a few extra dollars to start. You can create your own website, buy your own business cards, and start a home based business on the side to see if you can make it work.

For those of you that think this is too expensive, I bought a book on HTML, used Notepad, and started my own website for only $140.00

This misdirected anger towards business owners is completely unnecessary as anyone can simply leave their job and start their own business if they wish to. That is of course, unless this out of control government completely regulates all of our freedom away!

We need to stop punishing success with higher taxation, and begin instead limiting the growth of government.

Remember, the government produces NOTHING; they only CONSUME our tax dollars for large government bureaucracies.

Last night at the State of the Union, Obama said, "To close that credibility gap we must take action on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue to end the outsized influence of lobbyists; to do our work openly; and to give our people the government they deserve.

And that's why we've EXCLUDED lobbyists from policy-making jobs or seats on federal boards and commissions."

Maybe this explains why your national security policies are so weak!!!

You put William Lynn in the Pentagon as Deputy Defense Secretary. Mr. Lynn was a lobbyist for Defense Contractor Raytheon. I guess the Deputy Defense Secretary is not a policy-making job.
But it is not just Lynn.

•Eric Holder, attorney general registered to lobby on behalf of clients including Global Crossing.

•Tom Vilsack, secretary of agriculture nominee, registered to lobby on behalf of the National Education Association.

•William Lynn, deputy defense secretary nominee, registered to lobby for defense contractor Raytheon, where he was a top executive.

•William Corr, deputy health and human services secretary nominee, registered to lobby for the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

•David Hayes, deputy interior secretary nominee, registered to lobby for the regional utility San Diego Gas & Electric.

•Mark Patterson, chief of staff to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, registered to lobby for financial giant Goldman Sachs.

•Ron Klain, chief of staff to Vice President Joe Biden, registered to lobby for the Coalition for Asbestos Resolution, U.S. Airways, Airborne Express and drug-maker ImClone.

•Mona Sutphen, deputy White House chief of staff, registered to lobby for Angliss International in 2003.

•Melody Barnes, domestic policy council director, lobbied American Civil Liberties Union, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, the American Constitution Society and the Center for Reproductive Rights.

•Cecilia Munoz, White House director of intergovernmental affairs, lobbyist for the National Council of La Raza, a Hispanic advocacy group.

•Patrick Gaspard, White House political affairs director, lobbyist for the Service Employees International Union.

•Michael Strautmanis, chief of staff to the president's assistant for intergovernmental relations, lobbied for the American Association of Justice.

(It is amazing to me how many people believe in his words during speeches, but do not pay any attention to what he actually does)

I believe that The Confederate "rebels" Were as much Patriots as George Washington and Jeff Davis etc... I believe that if your Government is doing wrong, you have the right to change it. This country was founded on those values but we have abolished those long ago. I believe in states rights, but I also believe in the rights of the federal Government to check states rights. If it were not for our system of checks and balances, States like Ca, IL and Washington DC would take every civil right away. I believe that a large majority of Americans are fed up with their Government, I believe that there is an ember glowing in the Hearts of patriotic Americans that is yearning to become a flame. We have the fuel and we have the ember, we just need the guts to bring those together.

On WFAA recently, the story titled Smart meters under fire as electric bills soar was shown,

http://www.wfaa.com/news/consumer/meters-84921522.html

DALLAS — All Texas homes and businesses are slowly being switched over to
"smart" electric meters.

The technology lets power suppliers and consumers track usage by remote control.

Oncor Electric Delivery has only installed about 740,000 of the 3.4 million smart meters planned for much of North and Central Texas, but from Killeen to Dallas, suspicions are high as bills soar.

(I have serious privacy concerns with the smart grid and smart meter technology that allows power suppliers to track our usage by remote control. The PRIVACY of
our home is protected and guaranteed by the Bill of Rights “The right of the
people to be secure in their…houses…shall NOT be violated!

The high resolution electrical information can be used to reconstruct many intimate details of a consumer’s daily life which is an invasion of privacy and
a surveillance being conducted without a warrant.

Seriously, if I had one month of data on a particular home, I could figure out everything the person did on a daily basis from opening their fridge, to using the bathroom via the length of time the light was on, to when they do their laundry and about how many loads on average, how long they are on their computers, when they go to sleep, and pretty much be able to correlate spikes to
ALL their intimate habits.

This is a violation of our 4th Amendment rights, and it is no surprise to me that in the above story, Texans are also seeing their electric bills soar as I
believe electric companies are in the business of generating revenue.)

Some of you may not agree with Sen. Jim Bunning.

For those of you that do, please call your senators and let them know. Sen. Jim Bunning is taking a beating today. He is being lambasted, mocked and ridiculed as a crazy old man who has lost his bearings. Why? Because Bunning is insisting that Congress pay for
its lastest spending spree -- $10 billion in an emergency transportation and unemployment funding measure that Congress has not funded.

Bunning doesn't oppose the bill -- just the fact that Congress once again is spending money without funding the spending. They are just adding another $10 billion to the deficit!

Plus, as Bunning points out, just a few weeks ago Congress passed the "PayGo" law that requires Congress to fully fund any new discretionary spending! Bunning is simply holding their feet to the fire.

And for this, Bunning is the bad guy! He's being blamed for causing 2,000 Transportation workers to be furloughed... for the suffering of thousands of unemployed who will
miss their unemployment checks... CNN went so far as to put on its broadcast, "Thousands hurt by one Senator." Even G.O.P. strategists are worried that Bunning's stand will give the Democrats the advantage.

I say, hogwash! It seems Bunning may be the last man standing in the Senate.

Someone... somewhere... must draw a line and say NO to the endless spending spree that is pushing our nation to the brink of bankruptcy!

+ + Two actions

Here are two things you can do in response to these attacks
on Jim Bunning.

#1 -- Call your two Senators

Tell your two Senators that you AGREE with Sen. Bunning and
you want Congress to FULLY FUND any new spending!

Sen. Hutchison 202-224-5922

Sen. Cornyn 202-224-2934

Facts for your call:

--Sen. Bunning does not oppose the bill; just the fact that
Congress has not funded $10 billion in the bill.

--Sen. Bunning has proposed ways to pay for the bill but
those have been rejected.

--Congress just passed a new "PayGo" law that requires Congress fully fund any new discretionary spending.

JUDGE KITHIL Comments on Healthcare bill: "Other problems I have with this bill include:

** Page 50/section 152: The bill will provide insurance to all non-U.S. residents, even if they are here illegally.

** Page 58 and 59: The government will have real-time access to an individual's bank account and will have the authority to make electronic fund transfers from those accounts.

** Page 65/section 164: The plan will be subsidized (by the government) for all union members, union retirees and for community organizations (such as the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now - ACORN).

** Page 203/line 14-15: The tax imposed under this section will not be treated as a tax. (How could anybody in their right mind come up with that?)

** Page 241 and 253: Doctors will all be paid the same regardless of specialty, and the government will set all doctors' fees.

** Page 272. section 1145: Cancer hospital will ration care according to the patient's age.

** Page 317 and 321: The government will impose a
prohibition on hospital expansion; however, communities may petition for an exception.

** Page 425, line 4-12: The government mandates
advance-care planning consultations. Those on Social Security will be required to attend an "end-of-life planning" seminar every five years. (Death counceling.)

** Page 429, line 13-25: The government will specify
which doctors can write an end-of-life order.

HAD ENOUGH???? Judge Kithil then goes on:

"Finally, it is specifically stated that this bill will not
apply to members of Congress. Members of Congress are already exempt from the Social Security system, and have a well-funded private plan that covers their retirement needs. If they were on our Social Security plan, I believe they would find a very quick 'fix' to make the plan financially sound for their future."

Honorable David Kithil

(This Healthcare bill is OUTRAGEOUS, and an outright assault on our Constitutional rights!!!)

We shouldn't blame one specific political party over another. Republicans have been in power for 20 of the last 28 years. They are partly responsible for the current state of America wouldn't you think?

Just because the country hits a rough patch you all want to jump ship and form another nation?

Shame.

Very interesting points are brought up here. Personally, I do believe that individual states have the right to break away from the nation peacefully if they so please. I was born and raised in New York, but have spent a few years in Texas, have great friends there, and fell in love with the Dallas area. Would love to live down there when I retire. I promise I will not be a jerk like some of my snowbird peers.

Many questions arise though. Would the Federal Government allow Texas to break away peacefully?

If Texas were to become its own independent nation tomorrow, it would become the world's ninth largest economy, seventh largest oil producing nation, and would be able to feed not only itself, but over 10% of the WORLD on a yearly basis if it so wanted. If Texas breaks away, IMO, America's economy goes in the shitter overnight.

Second, with three major Army posts and two major Air Force Bases in the State, would Texas simply pay for the land and make them their own? And would the US government stand for the possibility in thousands of personnel and billions of dollars lost to their military?

Believe me, I know that if Texas became its own country, it would not only survive, but thrive. But will it be allowed to do so peacefully? Hopefully so. Besides, the US supported Kosovo breaking from Serbia and Georgia breaking away from Russia. It would be prety hypocritical if they stopped Texas from going on their own way!

An interesting conversation I have recently had with many business owners over how they will react to the unbelievably high taxes they will have to pay for this disastrous and unconstitutional Healthcare Bill.

They ALL are so angry that they say them will INTENTIONALLY ensure they earn less, reduce work hours, lay off employees, and earn under $200,000.00 until there is a Congress and President that actually respect the constitution. They would ALL rather live off LESS for a few years than give this government a single extra dime, and the irony of this is that THEY are the ones that are supposed to pay the brunt of all these tax hikes to pay for this illegal and unconstitutional mandate that forces people to purchase a good or service with the threat of imprisonment or fines by the Internal Revenue Service.

The Republicans were certainly not perfect; however the Democrats in control are completely destroying the United States of America.

Caterpillar Inc., a company with 94,000 employees, recently suggested that in the “first year alone” the new health plan would cost them $100 million.

McDonalds, IBM, United Parcel Service have around 500,000 employees and Walmart with 1,900,000 employees will be hit extremely hard.

But those who will be hit hardest of all by Obamacare will be small businesses. Many small businesses have been reluctant to add workers to their payrolls because the legislation was unclear. Now they know some of the massive new costs coming at them will be borne by them when they hire new people.

Small businesses employ nearly 70% of America’s labor force; nearly 100 million people work for and/or own small businesses in America.

The most infuriating aspect of the new health care plan is the method of enforcement. It appears that the IRS will be hiring an additional 16,500 auditors to administer compliance and assessing fees/taxes/penalties

Mandates: (For Individuals)
*Individuals must purchase insurance or pay a penalty that would be the greater of $750 or 2% of income by 2016.
Mandates (For Employers):
*The Senate bill requires companies with 50 or more employees to help defray the cost. Note: there is no exception for Part time versus full time employees.
How It Is Paid For:
*The reform plan would be financed through billions (suggested $500b) in Medicare cuts….. and new taxes, including a tax on insurance plans that are worth more than $23,000 for a family. Couples making more than $250,000 would pay additional Medicare payroll taxes.

Fees, penalties and new Social Security taxes may be assessed as soon as enforcement agency (IRS) is ready. Also, the benefits don’t really kick in, kin 2014. So for the first decade after passage of the health care bill, there will be ten years of paying into the system and six years of benefit withdrawals.

(This is just the beginning of this nightmare coming our way!)

I believe in Freedom of “We the People”

The freedom that allows us to benefit from our own success if we work hard at it,

The freedom to buy things we want, and to turn away from those goods we do not want,

The freedom to NOT have an unconstitutional mandate forcing “We the People” to purchase whatever the government deems as necessary; these days if it survives legal challenge, it will be healthcare, in the future, what will we be forced to buy next?

If you believe America is great, remember that we are a great and unique nation because of our freedom, and our constitution.

Once this is taken away, your children and your grandchildren will no longer wake up to the same America we experienced. They will wake up to a different United States of America, it will be tyranny and we will all be subjects.

The reason our founding fathers wanted limited government is because large government corrupts.

PLEASE DO NOT be easily fooled by government entitlement programs, as they are only utilized to enslave the people as they take over every aspect of your life.

The more the government provides for you, the more the government can take away from you! They know this and this is their method of taking over to control every aspect of your life, via regulations.

Support your Attorney General and Governor in protecting your state sovereignty, and your right to remain a free citizen of the United States of America.

The choice is yours, freedom or tyranny?

Fannie Mae was established in 1938You have had 71 years to

transferred to "the poor" and they only want more.

Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You have had
44 years to get it right and they are broke.

Freddie Mac was established in 1970You have had 39 years to

The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our
dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees
with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than
ever before. You had 32 years to get it right and it is a
failure.

Our Gov't has FAILED in every "government service" they have shoved down all our throats while overspending on our tax dollars!

AND THEY WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE THEY CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A

IT'S NOT ABOUT THE NEED FOR GOOD HEALTH CARE, IT'S ABOUT TRUSTING
THE GOVERNMENT TO RUN IT!

Guess what? One Job was Saved!

Some have said that the stimulus hasn't saved any jobs, but here is a case where at least one job was saved.

Oregon State University Athletic Director Bob DeCarolis was considering firing their basketball coach, Craig
Robinson, after an 8-11 start (2-5 in the Pac 10 conference).

When word of this reached Washington, Undersecretary of Education Martha Kanter was dispatched to Corvallis with $17 million in stimulus money for the university. The source now says that Craig Robinson's job is safe for this year.

For the record, Coach Robinson just happens to be Michelle Obama's brother.

Let's look at each of these examples:

***The U.S. Post Service was established in 1775. You have had
234 years to get it right and it is broke.

+++It's not broke, they have been doing their jobs for over 200 years and when you consider that they get it done for 44 cents, where in Europe the cost is several times more than what we are paying. It's not broke, they just aren't charging enough for their services. Think it can be done for cheaper, than get off your a** and try it. You wouldn't do much better.

***Social Security was established in 1935. You have had 74 years
to get it right and it is broke.

+++Again, it's not broke, it works and millions of us get our social security checks and all the other services. Oh yeah, it's not broke, as in out of money either...

***Fannie Mae was established in 1938You have had 71 years to
get it right and it is broke.

+++Until recently it has been working fine, except a few people decided to do some dumb decisions, which we can squarely blame the banks on and they being Fannie Mae got stuck with the bill. With this logic, GM shouldn't have gotten a bailout and should have been allow to fail.

***War on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 45 years to get
it right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and
transferred to "the poor" and they only want more.

+++I work with the poor and frankly the vast majority of them don't want to be there. Question for you, what would you like us to do with the poor? I understand the debtor prisons can be started again, the poor houses are not quite full or should we allow them to just died and decease the surplus population of the World.

***Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You have had
44 years to get it right and they are broke.

+++For those of us on it, it works better than nothing, and while it's not the best, it's better than nothing. You wait until you are my age and let's see what you say than young one...

***Freddie Mac was established in 1970You have had 39 years to
get it right and it is broke.

+++Same as before and not worth saying again...

****The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our
dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees
with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than
ever before. You had 32 years to get it right and it is a
failure.

+++This one was the easiest of your issues, stop driving that damn SUV you've got and we wouldn't have this issue. Try public transportation, like us old folks have been doing for ages and maybe we wouldn't need the DOE at all.

Getting back to the real issue, "Can Texas Secede", the answer is "yes", it's in the annex and frankly there are too many people who now live in Texas who weren't here 25 years ago, that getting a majority of them to agree to it would be next to impossible. But don't let that stop you guys, you keep right on trying. Kind of like a one legged man trying to kick a cat. The object is close, the theory solid, but trying it in reality is something different.

If you actually did get it to happen, can someone answer the question of how you are planning on paying for it? Texas's annual budget currently, is something like $167B and how much do we get from the Fed's?

Texas has gotten $2B from FEMA since IKE, which close the Port of Houston, where do you get that money in the future?

I could go on why it's just plain dumb to leave the Union, but why should I, go ahead and do and I'll write the history of it. Should be interesting...

A old, proud Texan...

From: Constitutional Law Instructor

The Health Care Bill does provide for rationing of health care, particularly where senior citizens and other classes of citizens are involved, free health care for illegal immigrants, free abortion services, and probably forced participation in abortions by members of the medical profession.

The Bill will also eventually force private insurance companies out of business, and put everyone into a government run system.

This legislation also provides for access, by the appointees of the Obama administration, of all of your personal healthcare direct violation of the specific provisions of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution information, your personal financial information, and the information of your employer, physician, and hospital. All of this is a protecting against unreasonable searches and seizures. You can also forget about the right to privacy. That will have been legislated into oblivion regardless of what the 3rd and 4th Amendments may provide.

If you decide not to have healthcare insurance, or if you have private insurance that is not deemed acceptable to the Health Choices Administrator appointed by Obama, there will be a tax imposed on you. It is called a tax instead of a fine because of the intent to avoid application of the due process clause of the 5th Amendment. However, that doesn't work because since there is nothing in the law that allows you to contest or appeal the imposition of the tax, it is definitely depriving someone of property without the due process of law.

I could write many more pages about this legislation, but I think you get the idea. This is not about health care; it is about seizing power and limiting rights.

Obama just got his PRIVATE ARMY via the HEALTH CARE BILL!

This is after the Phoenix Suns were protesting the new law in AZ:

What if the owners of the Suns discovered that hordes of people were sneaking into games without paying?

What if they had a good idea who the gate crashers are, but the ushers and security personnel were not allowed to ask these folks to produce their ticket stubs, thus non-paying attendees couldn't be ejected.

Furthermore, what if Suns' ownership was expected to provide those who sneaked in with complimentary eats and drink?

And what if, on those days when a gate-crasher became ill or injured, the Suns had to provide free medical care and shelter?"

Obama's US Assassination Program?

Sound too conspiratorial to be true? Like the cover-up ops of spy novels? Well, it's reality. And it is possibly the most bizarre, inhumane and abusive way that the White House is expanding its power over the American people.

It's not an extremist belief or theory of the far right. It's a fact that has been confirmed by The New York Times, The Washington Post and MSNBC and even documented by the far-left online magazine Salon.com.

And it's the gravest nightmare of U.S. citizens and abandonment of our Constitution to date: a presidential assassination program in which U.S. citizens are in the literal scopes of the executive branch based upon nothing more than allegations of terrorism involvement as the branch defines it.

Remember the words "a shortlist of U.S. citizens specifically targeted for killing"?

That's right. No arrest. No Miranda rights. No due process. No trial. Just a bullet.

Eh, Texans, want to secede? Elect me as president, and if you want to secede, be my guest. No problem! Same with y'all in the deep south. I'll add in Florida to sweeten the deal. One minor detail. You know that "kosmodrome" at Cape Kennedy? I'll pull a Meigs on it first! Otherwise, have fun! Just be careful what you wish for. You just might GET IT.

As a former Texan I am a big fan of Texas secession. I think your optimism of how well Texas would fare without the military and tech industry it gains from being part of the US is misguided. However, I do think there is a big gap in values between Texas an the rest of the US and we are better separate. We should work together and try to get a national amendment passed in State legislatures across the country. I'll do what I can up here in NC.

You seem to have left out an important part. Texas was once the "Republic of Texas". They decided to "join" the union but did not give up their status as their own country. That is why, still today, Texas has their own pledge of Allegiance and can fly their flag at the same height as the American flag(no other state is allowed this). So their technical name is not..."The state of Texas"...as in "The state of Missouri"...."The state of New York"...it is "The Republic of Texas"
