In a civilized society, should anyone or any government ever force anyone to do anything against his or her will as long as that person does not infringe upon the life, liberty, or property of another?

The Bill of Rights is toast

Thanks to antiwar.com for printing this great article by John Whitehead. The article does a nice job of summarizing the loss of liberty that Americans have experienced in recent years. The end of the article discusses the recent National Defense Authorization Act, which allows the armed forces to be used inside America against American citizens.

Heading toward a police state slowly but surely

9/11 was a watershed moment in American history. Since that event, the liberty of Americans has been significantly eroded. The Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act, the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, and the latest National Defense Authorization Act all contain frightening provisions that have taken away much of our freedom.

Additionally, the government is increasing the number of "checkpoints" across America as you can read here. Until Americans wake up and put the pressure on the government to halt such abuse, the loss of freedom will accelerate.

The Patriot Act

There has been harsh criticism of the Patriot Act, specifically because it seems to greatly enhance the government's ability/authority to keep a close eye on us. Here's an interesting article regarding the act.

Shoddy management by the government? No way!

As usual, the government can't manage to keep a track of our money. Read the depressing article on how they mismanaged $30 billion. Tragic.

Another "great" government program is almost insolvent

Virtually all government programs have two distinct characteristics: they are not well thought out, and they violate the property rights of American citizens. Read here about such a program, which is almost insolvent. Government can only give to one what it takes from another, as in this program, and thus violates our property rights. After the revolution, let's make sure we don't include any of these cranky programs again.

U.S. keeps killing abroad

Thanks to antiwar.com for a powerful article about the women and children who are being murdered - and then ignored by the U.S. mainstream media - by the U.S. armed forces as it chases down bad guys. The next Bin Laden is already alive and has hatred in his heart for what the U.S. military did to his family. An easy recruit for terrorists - no tough sell there. Time to listen to Ron Paul and leave the world alone.

Government cuts cell phone power

People in many countries are able to coordinate their activities, especially demonstrations, using cell phones, twitter, facebook, etc. Governments know this - and hate it. So the government in San Francisco, as you can read here, decided to cut power to cell phone towers so it would be more difficult for people to plan their demonstration. This is just the beginning. In the future, the federal government will do the same, and also go so far as to shut down the internet in the interests of "security" and to hinder "terrorism." Time to watch V for Vendetta again. As V said in the movie: "There's something terribly wrong with this country."

Another government program wasting taxpayer dollars

Is there no end to the folly of the U.S. government? In this article, you can read how they waste our money paying for empty flights to small airports. Millions down the drain. Tragic.

Tax the rich!

The government loves to play the envy game. Many people are envious of the rich, and the government uses that to their advantage (so they think). Thanks to lewrockwell.com for posting a great little article by Walter Williams. Read how the government pretty much destroyed, in search of more revenue, the yacht building industry here in America.

Tent cities grow as the Great Recession continues

Allegedly, the Great Recession ended (if you believe government statistics). But for millions of Americans, the recession continues, evidenced by the growth of tent cities around the country. You can read the article here, and make sure you check out the pictures!

U.S. debt is massive

As many have known for a long time, the U.S. has many other obligations it has to pay. When you total them, you see the staggering figure: well over $1oo trillion. Read the article here to see where the U.S. stands financially.

Jeff Tucker nails it

A fantastic article appeared on mises.org today. Jeff Tucker hits the nail on the head when he writes how the Austrians predicted it all and the Keynesians are all washed up. And to think that while I'm teaching history, some knucklehead is teaching all those Keynesian untruths next door. Ugh! Read Jeff's great article here.

Ron Paul predicted 9/11 many times

As you can see here in this youtube video, Ron Paul, the Jefferson of our time, warned that we should leave others alone. If we don't, he said, we invite terrorist attack and blowback. Too bad the American sheeple don't want him as president.

Your money going to Israel

The U.S. is sending $3 billion every year to Israel. Why? Don't we need the money here? Aren't we in the middle of a serious debt crisis? Read the short article here that appeared on antiwar.com today.

Obama and his wars - election time!

Ivan Eiland is one of the best authors on antiwar.com. Read this to-the-point article about O-Bomb-A and his desire for re-election at all costs. As I write this, the C-in-C has now added Somalia to his list of countries where he uses predator and reaper drones to murder innocent men, women, and children in order to kill a couple of bad guys. That's drones into Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, Libya, Afghanistan, and Somalia. Tragic.

The children in those countries who have lost a parent or two are now automatic America haters. The next Bin Laden is five, six, maybe ten years old. He will strike when he's in his twenties.

The Afghan War - what has it achieved?

Here's another great article from antiwar.com. It's time to get out of Afghanistan - where empires go to die.

The FBI will be watching you

As you can read here (and watch the video), the FBI will be expanding its surveillance of Americans. Hmmm. I wonder who was more correct: George Orwell with 1984, or Aldous Huxley with Brave New World. Be careful what you do, comrade.

Hackers better than the government

The U.S. government, which fails at everything they do, is about to fail again. As they admit in this article, they can't keep up with hackers who want to do damage to computers and networks. One reason why is why work for the government, when you can have a more rewarding job in the private sector? Somebody let me know when they get something right.

Oops! It costs more than we thought!

Par for the course, the U.S. government has no clue on how to determine costs. Back in 1965, they rolled out Medicare and Medicaid and said it would only cost $9 billion the first 25 years (1965-1990). They were wrong: those programs cost $67 billion. In this article, the government now says they miscalculated and the Libyan War (another war?) is costing millions more per month. Pathetic.

Perpetual War

The Pentagon's inhabitants, along with Presidential advisers like Gates, love to find "something to do." As you can read here, they admit they'll always have a full menu. The problem is, we pay for it, young Americans get killed, and the rest of the world resents the empire. Tragic.

The U.S. health care system in two and a half years

On January 1, 2014, the full-blown Obamacare package kicks in. Then the U.S. will slide into a Canadian style healthcare system where the government calls all the shots. The same holds true in England, where people can die from dehydration and malnourishment in a hospital. Read the disturbing article here.

Government scare tactics

Amazing article here on how the government tries to scare people with ridiculous statements and lies. God forbid Senator Rand Paul tries to do the right thing. Most of the rest of congress wants none of it (serious debate) so they can rule our lives.

Faulty science?

As most followers of Austrian economics and the Mises Institute know, there's a lot of bad science out there. Thanks to lewrockwell.com for linking to this article about the "man-made" global catastrophe known as global warming, er, I mean, "climate change."

One century can change a lot

A century ago, the U.S. was a manufacturing juggernaut, selling its products all over the globe. Now? A sobering article you can read here.

The Empire is at it again

The Empire (yes, the U.S.) has decided to meddle once again in the affairs of another nation. After all, it says so in the Constitution, right? Oh, no, it doesn't. Oh well, the Wilson and Truman Doctrines say we can police the world. The American taxpayers don't mind, do they? Read the article here - thanks to antiwar.com.

Another great article on healthcare

Thanks once again to mises.org for publishing yet another great article on health care. Most Americans don't know what's going on with healthcare (or anything economic, historical, or political) and this article should clear some things up. How horrible is 2020 going to be, after a full six years of Obamacare? I don't really want to think about it.

Broke Town U.S.A.

This article highlights what will be going on all across America in the not-to-distant future. Because the Federal Reserve prints money out of thin air AND governments large and small can't stop spending, the good 'ol U.S.A. is headed for meltdown. One financial adviser said a few weeks ago that it's insane not to own gold. Do you?

Time to end the Fed

Thanks to lewrockwell.com for publishing this short but excellent article on how the Federal Reserve has destroyed the purchasing power of the U.S. dollar. Isn't great to know that the rest of your life you'll be working for dollars that are worth only four cents or less. It's time to eliminate the Federal Reserve (peacefully, that is) and institute free banking led by entrepreneurs (who would have us on the gold standard).

Sorry folks, the Right is just as bad

Some of my acquintances rooted for Romney, Guliani, Huckabee and so forth during the last round of the Republican primaries. Of course, I'll bet the farm none of them do much research and read no policy journals. It was hard to convince them that the "conservatives" in government are statists who love not only big government but also the American empire.

Here, Lew Rockwell succintly sums up what every supposed small-government conservative should know: there's no difference between the two parties - they're all statists who want to run our lives and the world.

Super government spying center

Thanks to lewrockwell.com for a heads-up on the new super duper "cyber security" center in Utah. The government is spending $1.5 billion of our money so they can more effectively listen to everything we say and look at everything we post. You know all those futuristic sci-fi movies about how the government controls everything and watches everyone? Well, if you missed any, don't worry. We're in that society now. Read the article here.

Millionaires leave Oregon

Just as they did a few years ago in Maryland, the affluent fled Oregon after the state jacked up the tax rates. Isn't it amazing how people who work hard and make pretty good dough want to keep it for some reason? So now Oregon collected $50 million less in revenues. Hmmm. Maybe that's why I saw a few Oregon license plates over the past few months.
