All of those dystopian sci-fi flicks the past 20 years, entertaining us with the idea that governments were everywhere - are actually coming true.

Taxpayer dollars being used to create a massive surveillance center to spy on - yes, taxpayers! For some reason, I wish I was born in like 1640 and lived until 1725 or so. I would have been 99.9% free, with a life basically untouched by government. Those were the days.

The Bill of Rights is toast

Thanks to antiwar.com for printing this great article by John Whitehead. The article does a nice job of summarizing the loss of liberty that Americans have experienced in recent years. The end of the article discusses the recent National Defense Authorization Act, which allows the armed forces to be used inside America against American citizens.

Heading toward a police state slowly but surely

9/11 was a watershed moment in American history. Since that event, the liberty of Americans has been significantly eroded. The Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act, the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, and the latest National Defense Authorization Act all contain frightening provisions that have taken away much of our freedom.

Additionally, the government is increasing the number of "checkpoints" across America as you can read here. Until Americans wake up and put the pressure on the government to halt such abuse, the loss of freedom will accelerate.

The Patriot Act

There has been harsh criticism of the Patriot Act, specifically because it seems to greatly enhance the government's ability/authority to keep a close eye on us. Here's an interesting article regarding the act.

Shoddy management by the government? No way!

As usual, the government can't manage to keep a track of our money. Read the depressing article on how they mismanaged $30 billion. Tragic.

Another "great" government program is almost insolvent

Virtually all government programs have two distinct characteristics: they are not well thought out, and they violate the property rights of American citizens. Read here about such a program, which is almost insolvent. Government can only give to one what it takes from another, as in this program, and thus violates our property rights. After the revolution, let's make sure we don't include any of these cranky programs again.

U.S. keeps killing abroad

Thanks to antiwar.com for a powerful article about the women and children who are being murdered - and then ignored by the U.S. mainstream media - by the U.S. armed forces as it chases down bad guys. The next Bin Laden is already alive and has hatred in his heart for what the U.S. military did to his family. An easy recruit for terrorists - no tough sell there. Time to listen to Ron Paul and leave the world alone.
