In a civilized society, should anyone or any government ever force anyone to do anything against his or her will as long as that person does not infringe upon the life, liberty, or property of another?

The war against the fat begins

I like science fiction for two reasons: it's entertaining and gives us a glimpse into the future. Books like 1984 by George Orwell and A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley are great. Movies like V for Vendetta, Gattica, and Aeon Flux also show the nanny state/big brother controlling our everyday lives.

Now, as you can read in this article, one state is considering legislation that would prohibit restaurants from serving fat people! Mark it down - 2008 was the year the U.S. began the war against the fat.

Let's not forget that governments now force bars and restaurants to ban smokers, even though it's private property. Don't forget to read my earlier post regarding California considering to remotely monitor thermostats in people's homes. What's next - are they going to tell us how much water we can have in our toilet bowls? Oh, that's right. They already do that (Clean Water Act of 1991). No more than 1.6 gallons per toilet or you're in trouble mister!

Maybe it's time to view those movies and/or read those books again, so at least we'll know what Amerika will be like soon - don't you agree, comrade?

Thanks to the lewrockwell.com for posting a link to the article.

the issue of the environment is best solved by people following their own best self interest. Does forcing people who are already struggling with their housenotes to buy a green toilet serve our best interest? If making simple minded people even more reactinary is our goal then yes. Does putting a tariff on China b/c they use coal just? Well, if you hate recycling old computers into new solar cells then you better get used to the fact that China's leading the way in that field. Environmentalists should heed RP's answer about the environment in the most recent MTV debate, which was explaining the environmentalist cause in terms of private property, is the only feasible means. And the key here is feasibility. No socialist has ever effectively, or sustainably protected the environment. The EPA hasn't done it, will never do it, get over it. But it would take only very few lawsuits before these gov't subsidized corporations found it not profitable to pollute our air, our land, or our food.

Maybe I want to be fat, what does this country have to say about me being fat? Some girls like a big boned man. Not but a hundred years ago fat on them bones was a sign of wealth and looked up to, but now due to corp. advertising thin is the new "in". Government intervention never leads to what is intended so less government must be better.............and if Hillary gets elected I might vomit.

War against fat, I like it. Fat people smell. Fat people violate my rights when they invade my personal space.
