In a civilized society, should anyone or any government ever force anyone to do anything against his or her will as long as that person does not infringe upon the life, liberty, or property of another?

Ready for the draft?

As you can see by this article, John McCain, Republican presidential nominee, is just the kind of war hawk to get us involved in more conflicts. The army is exhausted already, so the only way he can tell other countries what to do is to draft you. Yes, you.

As the new draft is written, it says all men and women, between the ages of 18 and 42, must serve two years in the military. You can't get out like people did during the '60's and '70's, where those in college were exempt. They've taken that away. So get ready to exchange your textbooks for a rifle and grenades.

I'm sick of war, especially now that we've been in Iraq for longer than the U.S. fought in World War II. And it's costing the U.S. 12 billion dollars a month! That comes from you and me, the taxpayers.

I actually had a very very long discussion with a few sober-ish friends and we all honestly believe in cutting the military in half. I've written to my congressman (sober) and my senators but alas...the letters i got back seemed like something that they already had written up and some secretary said, "yeah, send her that."

I believe in a military. I honestly do. I think that we should have one but not the one that we have. It's enormous and the statistics on the money that we spend for it is staggering to the point where it would make the average American throw up (if you could get them off of their phones long enough for them to listen).

So we came to this: a somewhat strong navy. Keep a good amount of carriers (5 tops) and some small attack ships. Perhaps some submarines. A few aircraft (just enough to fill the carriers). To add to this, a MUCH smaller army. I think we should have patrols on the waters, but that we shouldn't put nuclear aircraft carriers and predator drones in the back yards of everyone on the planet! To add that that, we need to close just about every single base that we have open around the world. It's like having some guy that you work with come in every day and shout "you all are nothing without me! I am everywhere, i'm in everything! Bah ha ha ha ha!!!"

I think that this move alone would solve a load of problems. There would be no threat for a draft. The VA would be rushed in the beginning but after a time to re-cement itself, it would stabilize and be stronger than ever (most VA hospitals can't even cater to it's female veterans, even the one in Houston) and best of all, we might get some of the billions we spend a month back into the system of counterfeited dollars and maybe...just maybe, before i die, i'll see a damn dollar that is worth more than 4 cents.

Write your congressman and your senators because until we all take up the pen and paper, they will continue to bury their heads in the sand and think that what they are doing is okay. What will it take in the end for us to wake up? Thousands of dead soldiers that were forced into combat? No. It will be worse than that. That has already happened and we did nothing.
