I have full faith when Obama says that this is the beginning of the end of the campaign in Afghanistan, and that these 30,000 additional troops will be joining the rest of the soldiers in leaving the country in 18 months. Unfortunately, I think Raimondo is right; they'll be leaving Afghanistan and moving right into Pakistan, violating our "ally's" sovereign territory. This is going to have the effect of further destabilizing the Pakistani government, especially in the northern Kush regions of the country where the Taliban is the de facto ruler. This is probably the last thing we want to do to a country with nuclear technology for the taking. (Maybe that'll even provide the reason for a preemptive takeover of the Paki government. Maybe we can even get Karzai's drug kingpin brother to puppet rule it.) I just hope that our eventual withdrawal from the region won't be on the heels of a nuclear incident involving many of our servicemen and who knows how many civilians.
Patiently awaiting the 2012 election peace rhetoric and eventual 2013 invasion. Looks like no change this time around.
You may be right. God help us all if we go into Pakistan. The world reaction to that, especially from China, would be interesting to see.

Why did O get the Nobel prize? Was it Bush or Cheney who wrote his acceptance speech? How should we respond to a "nuclear incident" involving nations who shouldn't have this technology to begin with? Do we have the leadership to show new nuclear club abusers how it's done? That would be defined as making sure another "incident", nuclear or otherwise ever occurs in that nation. If they're so motivated to have nuclear weapons maybe we should give them a few. I'm pretty sure the desire will wane after the first offender ceases to exist. Who gives a rat's ass what China thinks? Are they not running the globe using power to promote their national interests? Just like France, Russia and others. But the US is the only bad guy right?
